The idea of national revival underlies the University's activities. The present day has put the KNURE into a series of educational institutions which
had the honor and the destiny to occupy a significant place in the building up of the independent Ukraine. The KNURE is a modern educational and
research center which will open its treasure-house of knowledge world and national values not only to the youth of Eastern Region but to that of the
whole Ukraine and many countries of the world. At present, the University trains over 8.5 thousand students on 25 specialities. The KNURE has an
effectively functioning system of training scientific and pedagogical personnel which includes 200 strong postgraduate and doctorate courses. Every
year the University's specialized boards award the KNURE employees some 40 candidate's and doctor's degrees.

The KNURE teaching and laboratory base is under intensive development. The university has created and is successfully running a local computer
center, Internet, a center of distance education technologies, an electronic library, a TV center for students, a laboratory of satellite TV, the only one
in Ukraine, laboratories of radioelectronic office engineering, information security hardware and software tools, consumer electronics, microprocessor
devices, banking technologies, etc. The KNURE has developed the standard version of the Corporative Information Analytical System "Universitet"
which provides highly intelligent computer support of planning and monitoring the main processes of the educational establishments vital functions.
The University was one of the first among Ukraine's schools of higher learning to start developing and introducing methods of distance learning and
was the initiation of setting up the Ukrainian Association of Distance Education to combine and coordinate actions in the sphere including ones with
the CIS.

High level of quality of education is ensured not only by the University's present-day material and technical base, publishing of new textbooks
educational manuals and scientific monographs. Highly qualified instructors including 135 professors, doctors of Sciences, 441 associate professors,
candidates of sciences are the KNURE's golden fund. The KNURE specialists' high level of training is confirmed by awards our students have got at
All-Ukrainian and international competitions.
The high level of training and extensive international links of the KNURE with foreign universities enable students, post-graduates and instructors to
study and work on probation at the leading universities of the world. In 2001the University was warded a Silver Stele and a Laureate's Diploma of the
VII-th International Academic Rating "Zolota Fortuna (Golden Fortune)" in the nomination "III-rd Millenium's Quality of Education".

The KNURE has created all the conditions to develop the student as a harmoniously developed personality: a library, reading halls, a cultural center
with numerous folk groups of amateur performances, a sports club, etc. Much attention at the university is paid to bring up the youth to strive for
national values: native language, history, literature, and art. The KNURE is doing research on problem of education developing new methods of
training whose results are available in the university journal "Novy Kolegium". It has become an open tribune of exchange of experience for Ukraine's
educators.

The KNURE's scientific achievements are known both in Ukraine and beyond its borders due to the successfully functioning scientific schools headed
by outstanding scientists. 9 Honored Science and Technology Workers of Ukraine, 25 members of Ukraine's and international academies are among
them. More than half of 30 leading scientific schools have been formed within in the years of Ukraine's independence. Their scientific achievements are
mainly associated with the directions of development of science and technology which are determined by Ukraine's government as first-priority ones.

The unique scientific results have contributed to the development of dozens of new scientific directions, having consolidated the priority of Ukrainian
science in a number of important branches of eco-nomy and military sphere. First of all, it concerns near space research. The measuring complexes
which had been created by the scientists of the KNURE which have no analogues in the CIS allowed to compile a catalogue of meteor particles in the
near terrestrial space, which is the most detailed one in the world, to carry out a highly precision fixing during the launch of the first Ukrainian
satellite "Sich-1", to create a global model of technogenical impurities in the Earth's stratosphere and mesosphere. Three small planets have been
named "KNURE", "Kashcheev" and "Voloschuk" by the International Astronomical Union for considerable contribution of the KNURE and
personally the Honored Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine prof. B.L. Kashcheev and prof. Y.I. Voloshchuk to the research of near space and
the compilation of the catalogue which is the most detailed in the world. The KNURE is the only University, which has won the world recognition of
such a level.

The KNURE scientists fruitfully work at the realization of space, information, non-destructive control and technical diagnostics national
programmes. The annual organization and carrying out of 3 international conferences: "Theory and Information, Reception and Processing
Engineering", "Education and Virtuality", "Radio Electronics and Youth in the XXI-st Century" are evidence of the recognition of the high level of
development of science at the University. .

In 2000 the KNURE became a coordinating center for development of science in radioelectronic industry. The International Academy of Sciences of
Applied Radio Electronics (IASARE) which was set up in Kharkiv in 1992 by the leading scientists and experts of Ukraine, Russia and Byelorus is
functioning on the KNURE's base.
Besides, the KNURE has served the base for setting up the National Association "Antennas", the Eastern-Ukrainian Branch of the International
Society of Radio Engineering (IEEE) which plays an important role in the development of scientific links of the University with foreign scientific
centers.

Stable development of the scientific schools and perspective scientific directions is realized under the conditions of active cooperation with foreign
partners, namely with the universities of Great Britain, France, Germany, the USA and other countries to integrate into the European and world
systems of higher education. Participation in scientific groups of the University in fundamental and applied research, which is funded by European
Union (EU), particularly in INTAS and INKO-Kopernicus programmes, is considered the first priority direction of cooperation. The students of the
University are actively involved in research in performing international projects. As a result, a new united complex system of training specialists of
educational qualification levels of "specialist" and "master", which enables the University to join the common net of EU technical universities, has
been created.

On of the component parts of the University's vital functions is improving the students' conditions of life and leisure, care for their health and
aesthetic upbringing. Present-day medical diagnostics consulting rooms, which became the base of effective operation of the 100-strong
sanatorium-preventive clinic "Impuls" where students and employees of the University may take a course of treatment or general improvement from a
health point of view, have been created.

Progress of the University is associated with the realization of the KNURE-approved concept of development approved by the KNURE which is
based on the KNURE's following directions of activity: integration into the European and world systems of education and science, realization by the
university of state social programmes of raising the population's level of education by developing correspondence and distance forms of education and
personnel retraining, bringing up a professionally and socially healthy generation of citizens ready to work and take responsibility for the destiny of
the society and the state. All these achievements of the university in the past and at present, clear awareness of the ways of further development
characterize the KNURE as one of the well-known Ukrainian unique centers of scientific and technical progress and give hope to its further
development in the future.
