| Most brain injuries result form moderate and minor head injuries. These injuries are usually caused by a non penetrating blow to the head or violent shaking. A concussion is a common result of a minor or moderate head injury. The victim usually experiences an alteration in consciousness. The person is knocked out and loses consciousness or remains conscious but appears dazed and disoriented. There are many symptoms people with a concussion could experience, though not all symptoms are experience by everyone. Early symptoms include headache, dizziness/ vertigo, nausea or vomiting, and a lack of awareness of surroundings. Late symptoms include poor attention and concentration, persistent low grade headache, memory dysfunction, lightheadedness, difficultly doing simple math, fatigue, difficult finding words, slowed reaction time, irritability and low frustration threshold, difficulty focusing vision, intolerance of bright lights and loud noises, anxiety, occasional ringing in the ears, depression, sleep disturbances, and mood swings. |
