Reflective Essay
In preparing
for my grammar guide, I had to do much preparation. I spent allot
of time researching my topic in order to get a full understanding for the
information I was required to supply for the portfolio. In addition,
I especially tried to make each topic have equal information so not to
particularly emphasize one area as more important than any other. I also
tried to use alot of examples so that students could apply the sometimes
difficult explanations into more simplistic applications. In all
honesty, I enjoyed doing research for this project. I did not think
my topic was especially difficult; however, it did require a great deal
of explanation because there was surprisingly alot of information out there
about it. As a result, I believe it was my obligation to give my
fellow students the best and most thorough analization on ellipsis and
more specific, elliptical sentences.
The part
of my grammar guide that I am most proud of would have to be the Literature
section. This is the topic which I found the most information on,
yet sorting through all of it was not easy. I think that I organized
all the sources and information in a clear and informative way. I
used authors that most English "experts" are quite familiar with for my
examples, which may prompt others to look for their use of ellipsis the
next time they are analyzing their works. I also felt that I should explain
how one can identify an ellipsis/elliptical sentence while reading so students
will understand that specific rules do apply.
In regards
to the class and portfolio in all, I have mixed feelings. Once I
began to better understand and work with the technological portion of the
class, I began to enjoy it. I felt a great sense of achievement after
working diligently to figure out how to put it all together myself without
having aide from a more "professional" person, such as my teacher or writing
lab specialist. I feel like my portfolio is strong and I am very
proud of the time and hard work that I put into making it to the best of
my ability (and computer knowledge!).
The class
as a whole was interesting. I have to be honest when I say that I
did struggle quite a bit in understanding the myriad of concepts that were
introduced. I was interested in the material and respected each student
who presented their information, even if sometimes I was not quite clear
on their specific topic. I did work very hard on my portfolio in
fear of the final exam in this class because I do not feel confident that
I will succeed to the level that I would like. However, I did enjoy
Dr. Canada's lectures because I knew that he is well educated and very
open to student questions. As a result, I was not afraid make comments
in class which helped more in my hopeful success in English Grammar at
UNCP.
