Eastern Oregon Museums Association April 14, 2009 11:30-3:30 Tamastslikt Cultural Institute Pendleton, Oregon The meeting was called to order by President Blanche Kohler. Those in attendance were Amy Poff, JD Fossil Beds; Randal Melton, Malissa Minthon Winks, John Chess, all from Tamastslikt Museum; Betty Elliott, Grant Co. Ranch and Rodeo Museum; Val Stockhoff, Carol Mulvany, Sharon Hohstadt, Dick Hohstadt, and Blanche Kohler, all from the Union Co. Museum; Kathleen Alquist and Bev Penz from the Eastern Oregon Fire Museum & Learning Center. Randall Melton welcomed us to Tamastslikt and introductions were made. The treasurer's report was given by Nadia Schultz. And Jayne Primrose read the minutes from the October , 2008 meeting held at union. The minutes were approved as read. We talked about our successes and plans for the new seasons. Union Co. Museum is just about ready to move into a new addition which will include a livery shop, blacksmith shop and Turner cabin. Jayne Primrose mentioned that the 5 Grant Co. "Museums " have put together a brochure which will direct visitors from one museum to the other and that table tents were being printed for use in restaurants & Historic Center which highlights 21 different museums in Southern Oregon State and Washington State. Jayne Primrose mentioned that she was looking for possible participants in a training session on museum stores. Several were interested. She also mentioned the move toward making exhibits "family friends" and interactive and thought that the topic would one for a future educational session, keeping in mind that we also need budget-friendly ideas. Our next meeting will take place on Oct. 13, 2009 at Eastern Oregon fire Museum and Learning Center in LaGrande. We will begin at 10:30. John Chess talked about the grant that Tamastslikt has received to help small museums with training and supplies. Randall and Malissa gave us "behind the scenes" tours of the collections area and the archives and library area. Many of us took time to tour the excellent and educational displays of Tamastslikt!
