Code of Ethics
I advocate the use of computers to enhance the lives of humankind everywhere, and I also respect the intellectual rights of those who create the hardware and software that we use to simplify our lives. As such, these are the computing practices I adhere to and recommend all users of computers to observe as well.
Always use legal software. No one likes warez, cracked software or key generators. Yes, you might get the software for free, but you're hurting someone who created the software, and there's a good chance of viruses embedded in illegal or bootleg software. If you want free software, consider freeware or open source instead of illegally obtaining software.
Abstain from file-sharing programs. These programs are usually used to download illegal software, copyrighted music or movies, or spread viruses. There is nothing positive about them, and often come laden with spyware.
Never distribute software or music you legally own across the web.
Give credit where credit is due. Never pull something from someone's website and claim it as your own, or use program code that isn't yours without citing the source.
Do not use someone else's password or account without their permission, and never try to obtain the information without their permission.
Observe Netiquette in chatrooms, on forums and newsgroups. Sites on netiquette are available across the Internet.
Never resort to hacking. Hacking is illegal, dangerous and can lead to jail time.
For goodness sake, never spam anyone, forward chain letters or open email that you don't recognize. This keeps all of our inboxes clearer and less likely to catch a virus from you.
Keep your software up to date. This will keep your computer from catching a virus or spyware, and will keep the rest of us from getting it from you.
Don't write viruses, trojans or worms to spread on the Internet. We already have over 200 nerds a month who like to do that.
Use common sense and good taste when computing, and don't do anything you have doubts about.
Computers are going to be an integral part of our future, and it is up to all of us to keep it clean, effective and profitable for the years to come.
