WORD ORDER

Word order คือ การเรียงลำดับคำเกี่ยวกับเรื่อง Word order นี้ข้อสอบเข้ามหาลัยเกือบทุกปีก็ว่าได้มักจะออกมาเพื่อทดสอบ ความสามารถของนักเรียนในเรื่องการเรียงลำดับคำ ฉะนั้นเพื่อช่วยให้นักเรียนได้เกิดความเข้าใจและสามารถจัดเรียงหรือวางตำแหน่งของคำ
ได้ถูกต้อง ขอกล่าวสรุปไว้โดยย่อดังนี้

(1) Position of Adjectives
การเรียงลำดับคำในประโยคลักษณะนี้ มีเกณฑ์การเรียงลำดับก่อนหลังตามลำดับขั้น ดังนี้

ลำดับที่ 1   Pointing word ได้แก่คำ 3 ประเภท คือ
          ก. Articles เช่น a, an, the
          ข. Demonstrative Adjectives เช่น this, that, these, those
          ค. Possessive Adjectives เช่น my, your, her, his,………..

ลำดับที่ 2 Quantity ได้แก่คำ 3 ประเภท คือ
          ก. Ordinal number เช่น first, second, third,………..
          ข. Cardinal number เช่น two, three, four,…………
          ง. Indefinite adjectives เช่น some, many, few, a lot of………

ลำดับที่ 3 Size คือ คำที่แสดงถึงขนาด เช่น big, large, small, tall………

ลำดับที่ 4 Quality คือ คำที่ บอกคุณภาพของสิ่งนั้น เช่น good, bad, beautiful,………

ลำดับที่ 5 Colour คือ คำที่บอกถึงสี เช่น red, blue, white,………

ลำดับที่ 6 Nationality คือ คำที่บอกสัญชาติ เช่น Thai, Burmese,………

ลำดับที่ 7 Material คือ คำที่บอกถึงชนิดของวัตถุ เช่น silk, leather , steal, ………..

ลำดับที่ 8 Noun คือ คำนามที่เรากล่าวถึง เช่น skirt, cat, purse,………..

ตัวอย่าง
      1. Have you seen ……… ?
          a. my three beautiful large Burmese brown cats
          b. my three large beautiful brown Burmese cats
          c. my three large brown beautiful Burmese cats
          d. my large three beautiful brown Burmese cats                            คำตอบที่ถูกต้อง คือ ข้อ b

      2. She is wearing ……… .
          a. a short blue silk Thai skirt
          b. a blue short silk Thai skirt
          c. a short blue Thai silk skirt
          d. a Thai blue short silk skirt                                                                  คำตอบที่ถูกต้อง คือ ข้อ c

     3. I happen to find ……….. .
         a. this small leather brown purse
         b. this small brown leather purse
         c. this leather brown small purse
         d. this brown leather small purse                                                         คำตอบที่ถูกต้อง คือ ข้อ b

(2) Word order in Questions
ในเรื่องของการเรียงประโยคคำถามนี้อาจแบ่งได้เป็น 2 ประเภท คือ

1. ประโยค Direct Questions มีการเรียงลำดับดังนี้

   ตัวอย่าง
            What time does the party start ?
            When will you go to America ?
           What time is it now ?
            Where did he go last week ?

2. ประโยค Indirect Question มีหลักการเรียงลำดับดังนี้

  ตัวอย่าง
       1. The old lady told us …… .
            a. what time the party would begin ?
            b. what time would the party begin ?
            c. what time the party would begin ?
            d. what time would the party begin ?                                               คำตอบที่ถูกคือข้อ c

       2. When did he tell you ………
            a. where he went last week.
            b. where did he go last week ?
            c. where he went last week.
            d. where he went last week ?                                                             คำตอบที่ถูกคือข้อ d

(3) Position of Phrasal Adverbs

ถ้าหากในประโยคนั้นมี Adverbs อยู่หลายประเภทในประโยคเดียวกัน การเรียงลำดับประเภทของคำ Adverbs จะต้องถือเกณฑ์ดังนี้

ลำดับที่ 1 Adverb of Place เช่น upstairs, here, there, ………
ลำดับที่ 2 Adverb of manner เช่น quickly, fast, slowly,……..
ลำดับที่ 3 Adverb of frequency เช่น always, sometimes, once a month, ……..
ลำดับที่ 4 Adverb of time เ ช่น today, tomorrow, yesterday, ……..

ตัวอย่าง
1. He comes ……… .
     a. twice a day during September.
     b. twice during September a day.
     c. during September twice a day.
     d. September twice during a day.                                                                    คำตอบที่ถูกคือ ข้อ a

2. John went …….. .
     a. to the post-office by bus last month every morning.
     b. to the post-office by bus every morning.
     c. to the post-office every morning by bus last month.
     d. to the post-office last month by bus every morning.                              คำตอบที่ถูกคือ ข้อ b
