Chapter IX: A Friend in Need

"Now who in the world could be here at this time of night? And in the rain too!" Wallace mumbled as he walked to the door that the sound of knocking was coming from. He opened the door to find his friend from the bar wet, battered, and bruised. "K-kinneas, what happened to you? Come in, you need to lie down," Wallace said frantically, seeing his friend's condition. "Everyone, get down here, we've got a problem!"

Everybody came down with weapons in hand, in case they were needed. "What is it? Did someone find us? Do I need to take them out? C'mon, let me at 'em!" Kisaragi yelled with her gun charging!

"Settle down, Kisaragi. The problem is that Kinneas here looks like he's been through a rock slide." Wallace told her. "Now Lockheart, you're good with injuries, so what should we do?"

"Well, it looks like none of his bones are broken, so we just need to give him some pills for his pain. Vincent, there should be some in the medicine cabinet. Go get it."

"How do you know so much about this stuff?" Strife asked her while Vincent got the medicine.

"I used to be a medic in the army. One day I was assigned to the front lines to help injured soldiers in the during battle. There were so many hurt, but I could only help the ones on our side. Having the power to help all of those in pain, but not being able to use it. Seeing so many die that I could have saved, that was the reason that I joined Avalanche."

Once Kinneas had been given the pills and was on the couch, he told the group what had happened. "Apparently, someone tipped off the military about your visits to the pub, so they sent some of those government dogs to come interrogate me. When I didn't tell them who or where you were, they beat me up, then burned down my pub and took my wife and kid. I tried to stop them, but they held me down and threw my family in jail. Please... you have to help them. You're their... last hope," he said through tears.

"Don't worry Kinneas, we'll get them back. I promise. But right now you need to rest and heal." Wallace told his friend. "Everyone, get a good nights sleep. We've got one hell of a mission tommorow."
