คือ นามที่นับนับได้
ได้แก่
นามที่มีรูปร่าง
นับเป็นชิ้นได้
จะใช้ a , an
นำหน้าเมื่อไม่ชี้เฉพาะเจาะจง
และสามารถทำเป็นพหูพจน์ได้
คือ อาจเติมคำ two, three, four,
etc.
ลงหน้าคำนามนั้นได้
เช่น two tables, three pencils
Countable
Nouns แบ่งเป็น 2 ชนิด คือ
1.
Common Nouns (นามทั่วไปหรือสามานยนาม)
เป็นได้ทั้งเอกพจน์และพหูพจน์
เช่น city, baby, man, desk, ect..
2.
Collective Nouns (สมุหนาม)
นามที่อยู่รวมกันเป็นหมู่
เป็นพวก เช่น herd, flock, bunch,
etc.
Collective
Nouns นี้บางคำ เช่น family,
group, committee, class , jury, cabinet, etc.....
จะใช้กริยาเป็นเอกพจน์ก็ได้ย่อมแล้วแต่ความหมาย
ถ้าหมายถึงกลุ่มเดียว
(unit)
ก็ใช้กริยาเป็นเอกพจน์
ถ้าหมายถึงจำนวนแยกแยะรายตัวบุคคล
(individual)
ก็ใช้กริยาเป็นพหูพจน์
The
committee has agreed on a plan. (คณะกรรมการทั้งคณะเห็นพ้องกันในแผนการ)
The
committee have not agreed on the plan. (คณะกรรมการแต่ละคนไม่มีความเห็นพ้องกันในแผนการ)
