Knight's Quest
"Let's see," you say.  "On the first page of this chapter, I wandered in a cave and then I was given a single choice at the end -- which was to leave the cave.  Then on the second page, I had a math test, but the secret to getting it right was to make no decision at all.  Then on the most recent page, my sole choice was to agree to cross this chasm."

What are you getting at?

"That you're getting lazy and not giving me real choices.  The whole interactivity-thing is starting to suck."

All right, I'll give you a real choice at the end of this page.  Is that okay?

"Well, let me see.  I'll just skip down to the bottom of the page and look at the links . . . oh, yeah, that's cute!  Real cute!  Yeah, like that's a real choice!"

I'll do better next page. I promise.

"Well, I guess I'll stick around.  Been through it this far, and this is the last chapter.  I want to see how things are going to tie together -- and they are going to tie together, aren't they?  This isn't going to be a New Wave literary kind of story, where you go through a bunch of weird things and then in the end nothing gets tied together, is it?"

Everything will get tied together in the end.

"We shall see.  Oh, and another thing, these little interludes where I talk to you?  They're destroying the immersive nature of the story.  They keep reminding me that I'm sitting at a computer in the twenty-first century, instead of being a knight on a quest during the Dark Ages.  You've got to mortar back the fourth wall, so to speak."

Okay, we'll keep that in mind too.

"And what's this royal 'we' business anyway?  You're only one person writing this stuff!  Are you trying to sound like a crowd?  Or do you think you're Queen Victoria:  'We are not amused!'"

I was trying to sound like a crowd.  Nothing to do with Queen Victoria.  Now let's move on to the next pages, shall we?

"Please, let's -- though I think the link choices suck."

Suck, yeah, you mentioned that.  But here they are, anyway.  Choose wisely:

You continue on over the bridge.

You accidently trip on a loose board, and plummet to certain death.
