| You heed the words
of the fortune teller. You leave the main street of the village and
take the back street. You walk along in fog and gloom.
Suddenly two shadows jump out at you. "Give me all your money!" shouts one. "Give us all your money!" the other one corrects. "That's what I meant," the first one says. "I was going to share. Why do you always assume that I'm not going to share?" "Oh, I don't know," says the other one. "Maybe it's because the tapioca creme pie I baked yesterday is completely gone from the cupboard, and I didn't get a piece! Maybe it's because I have to pay the utilities and you never get around to paying your half. Maybe it's -- hey, where do you think you're going?" You were thinking of going as far from them as possible, but now they have you surrounded. You throw them your money bag. They keep closing in. "Yaaaah!" a man screams. It's the other knight from the tavern. He charges into the group, brandishing his sword. The two thieves scream and split. The knight yells, "Yaaaah haw!" after them, then turns around and tosses you back your money bag. "That was a bit of a go," the knight says. "Of course I was suspicious of that fortune-teller right from the beginning. Obviously she was in league with those two characters." "I am in your debt," you reply. The two of you walk along, sharing tales of knightly deeds and complaints about cuts in medical benefits. At last you come to a fork in the road. "Low road or high road?" the knight asks. |
