Existing Bathroom
We bought this 1924 house in May of 2000, and moved in the first part of July.  The bathroom was basic:  clawfoot tub, ugly wall-mounted sink, and toilet.  No shower.  A month before we moved in, we decided that the first project was to install a shower surround into the tub, which we bought from Ferguson Enterprises.  I installed the surround on the first night we spent there, and have never regretted it.  How could we even think of living there without a shower?  That wasn't an option.  And because clawfoot tubs were back in style, we were already a step ahead.

Everything in the bathroom was painted off-white:  lower half of wall, tub, pipes to tub and toilet.  That white paint had to go.

Here's a list of things we did to the bathroom.
Removed ugly sink and replaced it with pedestal sink.
Removed ugly wall lights next to medicine cabinet.  Installed all new electric with two GFCI outlets flanking medicine cabinet, new light above cabinet, and new ceiling exhaust fan.
Painted the tub green and feet and pipes brass.  (Pipes were chrome.)
Laid a peel-and-stick vinyl tile floor (courtesy of Home Depot).
Installed tileboard on lower half of walls.  We didn't want to go through the extra trouble of installing real ceramic tile.
My wife stripped the wallpaper from the upper half of the walls and painted green and burgandy.

All in all, it turned out really nice.
Our medicince cabinet.  To the left is my shaving mirror, and to the left of that is an outlet you can't see.  On the right is a wire shelf which holds decorations, my shaver, towels, and has another outlet behind it.
Our Home Depot pedestal sink.  The S pipe you see could not be moved or hidden.  It sits next to the pedestal and goes into the floor.  That's a furnace grate on the left.  Tile board on walls.
The tub and floor.  The scale underneath the tub came with the house.  It was pushed way under the tub and I found it when I ripped out the red shag carpet to get ready to put the new floor down.  Around the middle of the wall of the tub you can see a whitish spot.  The spot is one of a few floating "orbs" that were caught by my digital camera.  You can really see the orbs when the picture is at its biggest, but that one stands out.  On the other hand, it could be dust, but you never know.
