Adam Interview

Dr Fox Interview with Adam Garcia on Capital FM - Friday 4th September!!! - If you missed it then here it is! - Thanks to Helen for supplying this interview for us!!! (See bottom of this page for a sound clip of this interview)

Dr Fox: On our Bee Gees day you probably couldn't get more Bee Geesy in London at the moment than Adam Garcia, who plays the lead in 'Saturday Night Fever'. Welcome Adam.
Adam: Hello. Thank you.

Dr Fox: Hey. Is it going really well?
Adam: It's going brilliantly. The actual show is sold - I don't know when till. A long time. Till next year.

Dr Fox: Is it great being able to do the London Palladium?
Adam: It's fantastic. It's just such a huge place and the crowds just go mental every night. It's just such a buzz.

Dr Fox: It's funny. However many years ago when 'Grease' first came on stage people hadn't really been to the theatre and been used to getting up out of their seats and dancing. Treating it as a mixture between a theatre production and a gig. Night Fever's the same thing isn't it?
Adam: Absolutely, the people who come to SNF, particularly towards the end - it just becomes a concert. So everyone's up and clapping and cheering.

Dr Fox: The last 20 minutes when you do the full reprise, the medley, it's fantastic isn't it?
Adam: It is. Sometimes I want us to go on longer but sometimes I can't

Dr Fox: It must be very tiring to do?
Adam: It is, it is, it is. I don't really do much else. They think my life is glamourous. It's not true. I obviously get to come in and do radio interviews. That's the glamour. But other than that, I eat and sleep and that's it. Eat, sleep and do shows.

Dr Fox: Eat, sleep and dancing?
Adam: Yeah

Dr Fox: That'll do for the moment won't it? This is like a dream come true for you to do this?
Adam: Absolutely. To play the lead in a fantastic musical in the biggest theatre in London. It's gotta be.

Dr Fox: It ain't bad is it?
Adam: It'll do

Dr Fox: What do you think about the whole Bee Gees thing. Here are these guys who are actually the 5th most successful pop act of all time.
Adam: Really?

Dr Fox: It's staggering. They were actually staggered when we mentioned that to them the other day. Robin's coming in a bit later on to review some songs.
Adam: I can kinda believe that. When you think about it, with the album for SNF the movie is the biggest selling movie soundtrack ever. And they just write great songs, fantastic pop songs. People have covered them and they've written songs for other people and it's just testament to how good they are at writing music and lyrics.

Dr Fox: A final thing. The first time I met you and the entire crew was at 'Party in the Park' and you were the finale. That went down a storm. Was that a buzz for you?
Adam: That was one of the most amazing things. Playing the Palladium is great and you do it 8 shows a week and then it's more than just a novelty to go and play in front of 110,000 people who are just screaming. It's virtually unmemorable, it's just like this dream vision I have. It was brilliant.

Dr Fox: It was fun wasn't it. It was a good laugh. Well look, we have, if you're prepared I am, to kneel down and pay homage and worship one of the Bee Gees. Robin's coming in to review some songs and if you're ready to crawl and get down there we are too.
Adam: Oh yes.

Dr Fox: Thanks for coming in. How many shows tomorrow is it? 2?
Adam: 2. 2 for Saturday. Yes that should be fun. (!)

Dr Fox: That's a hard Saturday, isn't it? Let's be honest?
Adam: Yeah. Sundays are good. We like Sundays a lot.

Dr Fox: No show Sunday?
Adam: No show Sunday

Dr Fox: You probably sleep most of the day?
Adam: I'm a loser on Sunday. Yeah, I'm a couch potato. I get up and try and eat and then back on the couch. And watch anything.

Dr Fox: Anything?
Adam: Anything'll do, yeah

Dr Fox: Well thanks for coming in. Continued success and well done with it so far.
Adam: Thank you.
