COLONEL GRAFF
Colonel Hyrum Graff is a very important character in the book, even though he doesn't have that much "page time."  Graff first introduces himself to Ender as the director of primary training at Battle School.  He is the Administrator of Battle School and is responsible for selecting candidates and, and he says, directing primary training.  We aren't given much information on the specifics of Graff's job, but it apparently very demanding and stressful.  Throughout the book, Ender comments that he seems to keep getting fatter and developing more stress lines.
Colonel Graff is Ender's primary "supporter" as a candidate for Battle School.  From the start, he believes that Ender is the one who will be able to save the human race.  I've noticed that many people can't seem to decide whether Graff is a good guy or a bad guy, and the simple answer is that he's a little of both.  Colonel Graff manipulates Ender and causes him a lot of emotional grief and trauma at Battle School, this is true.  However, what he is doing - in his mind - is all for the benefit of the human race, and if he has to step on a few children to ensure that, then so be it.
Towards the end of the book, Colonel Graff is removed from his command at Battle School due to the incident in which Ender kills Bonzo Madrid.  He accompanies Ender on leave and to Command School, where he is reassigned (and awaiting a court martial).  Ender develops a deep dislike for Colonel Graff throughout the book (as he does for most adults).  It is clear that Colonel Graff really does like and care for Ender, but he has a job that he needs to complete, and so his actions toward Ender often seem heartless and cruel.
