The T?ANEL ?


         The ?Evil Peoples? or ?Dark Peoples? who are bent on destroying all the other races of Fenye to multiply until they destroy the world itself. The TᲡnel are varied in form but most fall into three types of evil creature.
         R鴨 ? the ?r鴨ar?, or, wraiths, are shadow beings who breed using specific crystals hidden deep in the caves of Y鳴orie, far in the distant West. They feed off of a human by mimicking a real human shadow and drawing on the person?s life. The only sure way to know what kind of shadow someone has is to step upon it while chanting in Yuno, ?May the light give shine to truth?, which thus has become the only phrase in Yuno to survive used universally by men and Dwarves. Elves are untouchable by the r鴨ar.
         Shᳳa ? the ?shᳳar? are orc-like monsters in their natural form, but can shape-shift into any animate object larger than a squirrel. The Shᳳa in all forms retains its eye-colour and shape, which is a flesh-red iris around a jagged pupil slit.
         Sa?a ? the ?sa?ar? are creatures that control the ?the dark peoples? strategery. They have more ?normal? settlements with cities and Shᳳa breeding/training grounds. They are essentially humanoid, but are hairless, with side-wise pupils, and have scales in places where humans usually have hair, (except the face.)
         The Dark Peoples are creatures whose origins are wholly a mystery, though there was speculation in the Old Times that the Sa?ar were once men, cast out, who transformed because of their evil into the strange forms we see them now.
         The Origin of the Shadows, the r鴨ar, is said to be less mysterious; that they were the product of malignant magic, wrought by a group of Men in the Far Ages. The Shᳳar are wholly mysterious.


The Elves ?


          In Fenye, with the Great Wars (called the ?Troubles? by Men), the Immortal Ones, the Children of the Stars, fled from their great cities shared with men and Dwarves. They had been a light of peace and beauty for the world, but they had disagreed with the Dwarves on many important issues, and this cause strife among the two peoples.
          The Elves were peaceful to the race of Men, but they were valiant foes of the TᲡnel, the Dark Peoples. They wielded a magic all but unknown in Men, and their tongue was held as the origin of the language of the highest nations; Yuno, the language was called.
          The Elves left the world of Men and went off into the East as the nations of Men turned against each other, and the Dwarves retreated into their fantastic realms under the mountains and lands of Fenye. A small Elven Refuge is hidden somewhere in the legendary Hills of Amvr鴩묠where the Elven prince Colma Ru���acha is said to hold out against the threat of the TᲡnel, and protect mankind.


The Dwarves ?


          The Dwarves are the Children of the Stone, and they live primarily underground; their caverns built mostly by millennia of labour. They wage fierce war with the Sa?a and the Shadows.
          Economically the Dwarves are the source of certainly all raw metals (with perhaps two exceptions, the source of many a conflict) and they produce much of the fine metalwork used by men, as well as some used by the Elves. The Dwarves also supply stone and heavy masonry, but their skill is bought at a high cost in food and goods.
          The Dwarves also (in addition to their vast underground realms) control a small country in the Mountains of light called the ?Gate of the Sunrise? in their language, and the ?Land of the Stone Children? in Yuno.
          When Dwarves die, they return to stone and so there is a special cavern where Dwarves go to pass on called ?Ny?a? or ?City of the Stones?. The Elves, in their thoughts on philosophy, have questioned about the fate of the Dwarves.


The Race of Men ?


          The race of Men, called the ?Children of the Land? by the Elves, and the ?Children in Dreaming? by the Dwarves, are normally involved in petty disputing, but when the threat of the Evil Peoples abated somewhat, the men were no longer untied, and the Troubles began.
          Some men had learned the lore tongues and arts of the Elves, and had taken them back into their countries and taught the Men. These first meetings with the Elves earned them the name ?Brothers of the Stars? (the women among them being called the ?Sisters of the Stars? in kind). During the Troubles, the Heirs of the original Brothers of the Stars went into the Hidden City in the Great Forest and the few who stayed were trying to plead with Elves to stay, and if they must leave, to take with them some of the race of Men, so that they might not become estranged more than they were already.
          The Men of some lands maintain simple lives, but they do not have much to do with the rest of the race of Men, only accepting a few refugees. These villages, mostly agrarian, also have some lore preserved, and some of the Old Ways live on, but imperfectly. These villages are only usually in the mountains of Fenye.
Lore -


          The lore preserved in the Hidden City is more in the form of analytical-type history, and not as much legend and myth. Most of the lore is actually original documents and objects that were preserved for generations. However, with the oncoming of the Troubles, interest arose for the most ancient styles of lore-keeping, used as a non-literary way of transmission, the lay, gest, ballad, epic, and dialogue. Many of the deeds of Men in illiterate countries were recorded by bards, called ? ? in Yuno, and they were either written down in the hidden city, or were memorised by the ?hearing? group of loremasters.
          The ?hearing? group of the loremasters is closely meshed with the languagesmiths, who change terms or aid in the best way to use the language Yuno for best effect and style 9not just nit-picking grammarians) and to work on compiling all the other languages of man besides Yuno lest they be forgotten.
          Some of the primary works of Oral Lore are The Lay of Shiel, The lay of the Iron Mountains, the Assielar or ?Dreams? (an epic of the Elves on the early days of Man), The Gest of R���and Hafness, and these are but a few of the most widely known tales. The Lay of Shiel is a long rhythmic prose tale, sometimes rendered in poetry, that tells the story of a young warrior named Shiel and how he grows up from a tragic defeat of his people by the TᲡnel, to become the Warrior of the West, with near magical strength in and speed and skill in words. The story, however, is a tragedy, and Shiel dies in the end from human treachery, betrayal by his brother Atsharel.
