WHO IS THE GOD OF THE OLD TESTAMENT
IS IT CHRIST OR IS IT THE FATHER

Jesus Christ is God. The bible teaches this, we believe this.  He is second in charge of everything under His Father. He is the Son of God.

Most people in the church feel that the God of the Old Testament was Christ.
We will show you that the God of the Old Testament was in fact God the Father.

We have already seen that, in the Old Testament,  God the Father, who is Jehovah, has  the number in  Strongs  3068,  this can refer to Him only.  With this in mind lets press on to see new truth about the Father.

God the Father was the one who spoke to Adam in the garden.

GEN 2 V 16

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

No doubt  God had quite a lengthy conversation with Adam at this point.

It was the Father who brought on the flood.

GEN 6 V 7

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

The Father spoke to Noah

GEN 7 V 1

And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

God spoke to Abraham

GEN 17 V 1-3

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

The following verse is very interesting indeed, here we see Abraham talking with the Father then three men came. Two were angels.  We can identify who these men were very simply.  Firstly Moses bows to them and addresses one as My Lord.  This is H136  {in Strongs}which is Adony, which can mean, Jesus or God the Father.  In this case it is Christ because He was seen by Moses.  The other two were angels, they went into Sodom see  Gen 19 v 1.

God the Father can be heard, but He cannot be looked upon.

MATT 3 V 17

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

There are a number of scriptures which prove that the Father can be heard, I have included the most obvious scripture for your reference, in your private study, look up the others for yourselves  ……back to Moses and the three men.

GEN 18 V 1-3

And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

This next verse shows that the two men were angels

GEN 19 V 1

And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

The Father spoke to Moses in the burning bush

EX 3 V 4-5

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

The following verses are interesting.  God here says  that He is  I AM, this means I exist. He is showing Moses that He is the self existant One.  He then proves this in the next verse. The Lord God is Jehovah, the self existant One.  Here God the Father reveals who He is.

EX 3 V 14-15

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

The Father is here showing that He is to be called the Lord God.  He confirms by this name that He is Jehovah, the self existent one.  He is the One True God.

ABRAHAM DID NOT HAVE THIS KNOWLEDGE.

The next verses shows that Abraham did not know that the Father was Jehovah, the self existent one.

These verses are extremely important for us today, because the majority of us, would not have known till now that the Father was the one true God, that He is the Jehovah.  This is the proper name for the One True God.
Abraham did not know this, and the church does not know this at the present time.  The disciples knew it and the New Testament. church, but that knowledge has been lost, and must be restored in this end time Church.

PLEASE WRITE THIS VERSE DOWN  AND LATER LOOK IT UP AND READ IT OVER AND OVER UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS SAYING.

EX 6 V 2- 3

And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

Also please note very carefully that this I AM has no connection with the I AM which Christ spoke in the New Testament.

JOHN 8 V 58

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

This means that Christ existed before Abraham was alive.  That is all that verse means.  Nothing more.

This is exciting knowledge for us.  God the Father is the God of the Old Testament.

It was the Father who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt.

EX 4 V 31

And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

The Father brought the Israelites out of Egypt.  He is the one True God.  He is in charge there must be no God before the Father. The next verse is further proof that the Father is the God of the Old Testament, thou shalt have no other Gods before Him.
Jesus Christ would not have said this, He is second in charge to the Father.

JOHN 14 V 28

Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

We will find out why Christ led the Israelites throughout the wilderness in other articles on this site.

The God who said the following verse can only be the Father, He is the one in charge, there is no one above Him.

EX 20 V 1-3

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This may be astounding to most who read this article, but the Father has visited the earth and returned to heaven many times in the past, look at this amazing scripture.

PROV 30 V 4

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

We must continue to learn more knowledge about our heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ, because this is eternal life.

JOHN 17 V 3

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Let us seek out this knowledge with our whole hearts and minds and continue to grow as God would want us to.
