He
is risen contains amazing new knowledge for the church.
Was
the resurrection of Christ the same as when He was raised from the dead.
Lets
look at the scriptures and see the amazing new knowledge on this subject.
Lets
see that the resurrection and the time that Christ was raised from the
dead are in fact two different times. Astounding and yet very true.
Firstly
we will look at the days from Christ death until He was raised from the
dead.
Christ
died on Wednesday, 14th Abib at approximately 3 pm in the afternoon. On
Passover day also called The preparation day.
Joh
19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth
hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
Mar
15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,
Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being
interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me?
Mar
15:35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold,
he calleth Elias.
Mar
15:36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it
on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether
Elias will come to take him down.
Mar
15:37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
Mar
15:38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to
the bottom.
Before
Christ was buried there was several things that happened. Joseph of Arimathaea
went and asked for the body of Christ.
Mar
15:43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also
waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and
craved the body of Jesus.
Joh
19:38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus,
but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away
the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took
the body of Jesus.
His
body was then removed from the cross, this in itself would have been time
consuming as the nails would have been removed in such a way as to not
harm the body of Christ any more than it was already. I am sure this
would have been done with great sorrow and with every care. Showing dignity
and love for Christ.
Then
His body was anointed with spices and wrapped according to Jewish custom.
Joh
19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus
by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound
weight.
Joh
19:40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes
with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
Christ
was buried before sunset, as the next day was the holy day, the First Day
of Unleavened Bread.
Joh
19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the
bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath
day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken,
and that they might be taken away.
Christ
died around 3 pm Wednesday afternoon and was buried sometime between 3
pm and sundown. Before the Sabbath.
Luk
23:53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in
a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
Luk
23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
Time
was getting on, the garden where Christ was buried was at the place where
He was crucified.
Joh
19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden;
and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
Joh
19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation
day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
Notice
that the sepulchre belonged to Joseph of Arimathaea
Mat
27:59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean
linen cloth,
Mat
27:60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the
rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
Most
readers have probably not been to Jerusalem and seen first hand the sepulchre
where Christ was buried. We have seen it and it is above the ground.
Today when we bury someone they are placed under the ground probably around
6 feet deep. But in stark contrast the sepulchre of Christ is not
under the ground but as the scriptures state it is hewn out of rock. Christ
was actually laid a few feet above ground level, not under the ground
at all.
Mat
27:60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the
rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
The
sepulchre is not under the earth. So this burial was not what Christ
was talking about when He said He would be three days and three nights
in the heart of the earth. What He was referring to was what would
happen to Him after He was resurrected on Thursday morning, a few hours
after His death.
Christ died approximately 3pm Wednesday afternoon.
Sometime Thursday morning, the first day of unleavened bread, Christ
was resurrected.
The
sepulchre had a large stone placed at the opening, this was sealed some
time Thursday, the 15th Nisan, the First Day of Unleavened Bread, and a
watch of the guards placed there.
Mat
27:62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation,
the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
Mat
27:64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the
third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say
unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be
worse than the first.
Mat
27:65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it
as sure as ye can.
Mat
27:66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone,
and setting a watch.
When
Jesus was resurrected He folded His grave clothes and departed to Hell.
Joh
20:6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre,
and seeth the linen clothes lie,
Joh
20:7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the
linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
It
was some time Thursday morning the 15th the First Day of Unleavened bread
that Christ was resurrected. He was to then go to Hell or Hades for
three days and three nights. The three days are Thursday, Friday
and Saturday, the three nights are Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday
night. He rose from the dead Sunday morning, early.
Mat
12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's
belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart
of the earth.
Act
2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou
suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Rev
1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for
evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Christ
was resurrected into a physical body because this body was destroyed in
Hell
Mar
14:58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with
hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
Christ
descended to Hell
Eph
4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity
captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Eph
4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended
first into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph
4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above
all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
What
did Christ do when He descended to Hell. He spoke to the spirits
in prison.
1Pe
3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the
unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh,
but quickened by the Spirit:
1Pe
3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1Pe
3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering
of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein
few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Lets
recap on the events so far, Christ died, on Wednesday, He poured out His
soul unto death.
Isa
53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he
shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his
soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare
the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
When
He died He asked the Father to take His spirit.
Luk
23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father,
into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having
said thus, he gave up the ghost.
When
He was resurrected He was resurrected to flesh, but His soul and spirit
were with Him.
The
following verse shows that Christs soul was with Him in hell
Act
2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou
suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
The
following verse shows that Christs spirit was with Him in hell. Notice
it was by the spirit He went and preached to the spirits in prison.
1Pe
3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the
unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh,
but quickened by the Spirit:
1Pe
3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1Pe
3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering
of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein
few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
A further
example of the ones Christ preached to in Hell
Jud
1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their
own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto
the judgment of the great day.
This
flesh body of Christ was then destroyed in Hell or Hades. His flesh was
destroyed here, but not His spirit or soul. This is what was later
raised on Sunday morning.
Joh
2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy
this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
This
destroying of Christs body did not happen at his crucifixion, because it
is not three days from Wednesday afternoon till Sunday morning when He
was raised. Also His body was not destroyed at the crucifixion, yes
it was beaten and battered but not destroyed. Christ did die at the crucifixion
but His body was buried, it was not destroyed.
The
Father then raised up Christ on Sunday morning.
Mat
16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples,
how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders
and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third
day.
Act
2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because
it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Act
2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Act
10:40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
The
following scripture shows clearly that Christ was raised on Sunday morning.
The
stone was rolled away
Mat
28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first
day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mat
28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of
the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from
the door, and sat upon it.
Then
Christ appeared to Mary first.
Mar
16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he
appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
The
following event also happened very early on Sunday morning because Christ
had not ascended to the Father.
Joh
20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me
not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and
say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God,
and your God.
A very
short time afterwards people were able to touch Him and so He had returned
from the Father
Mat
28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them,
saying, All hail. And
they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
Christ
appeared in many different forms to the brethren during the 40 days He
was with them. Mary thought He was the gardener, He walked to a town
with two of them in another form and they did not know Him.
He
also told them that He was flesh
Luk
24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me,
and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Luk
24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his
feet.
It
is very clear in this article that the time of Christs resurrection occurred
early Thursday morning on the first day of Unleavened Bread.
Then
Christ spent three days and three nights in the heart of the earth preaching
to the spirits in prison.
Then
early Sunday morning He was raised from the dead [the dead here refers
to hell] the dead is a place not a state, it has been clearly shown that
Christ was not dead at this time, His body was destroyed but His spirit
and soul were not destroyed.
This
is very important new knowledge for the church. We have shown very clearly
that the resurrection of Christ and the time that He was raised from the
dead are two different times.
He
was resurrected on Thursday morning.
He
was raised on Sunday morning.
