Antares

What is that, I do declare, one so far, one so fair.

Mystical, enchanting, radiating colorful red.

A star in a constellation of Scorpius.

Some capture its beauty, some call it fire, for it

glows brightly in the night sky.

A summertime star, the heart of the Scorpion,

in the constellation.

In the summertime, look up into the heavens, for

it waits for you to see...closest to the moon, shinning

bright as scarlet illusions come to site.

All alone, but the brightest, of its family.

Growing bigger, each passing decade, flames

soars off its essence.

Some call it a giant star, some say its ancient by

far. But it takes someone special, to claim it as their

own, to become one within its realm.

Illuminating bright, only 520 light years away,

Larger than the sun, but yet, so far away.

If one night, your out upon a stroll, gaze up into

the night sky, look towards the moon..

Maybe you will be as fortunate as I, and will

see its vibrant glow.

Special thanks to the Anglo-Australian Observatory, for such a

magnificent photo of Antares and its surrounding family. And

Thanks to Bill Arnett, for without his magnificent work and

mastery of books on astronomy, this photo, I would not have

had the privilege to use. You may visit Bill's site at:
