Well, what do you think about this one?
ALL Beanies to retire on New Years Eve?? What is he up to?

August 31, 1999 morning edition
Well, here we are. The day of the BIG announcement. So, you probably did what I did... woke up early, turned on the computer, and went straight for Ty's web site. Big surprise. It was completely blank. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Just a black screen came up. What is he doing behind that "curtain" of black? Is it a complete overhaul of the web site? It certainly did need it. Hopefully something will happen soon.

$mart Collecting has received the following information from an anonymous Ty dealer. This is what their Ty Sales rep told them:

To discourage Ty dealers from selling to Safeway stores,
Walgreens, and other chain stores at wholesale prices
($2.50 plus shipping), Ty will buy back and credit the
stores for the amount for future shipments. All the buyback
Beanies will go to the Japan market which will include
     current and retired Beanies.
Though this information has not been confirmed, a buy-back program would be an excellent solution to retailers overstocks and the recent flood of Beanie Babies in drugstores, supermarkets and discount stores. The Beanies currently available in Japan are all "retired" Beanies with the exception of the 1999 Signature Bear. According to the Birdl@nd website, the swing tag on the Beanie Babies being shipped to Japan are the same as the U.S. tags.

Well, one more day to the BIG announcement. Ran across this message from someone concerning the event:

So, Here we are with all the speculations about Ty
retiring, Ty being bought out, Beanies will be only
sold in Hallmark stores, Newbies, retirements, etc.
This is what the NEWSFLASH will say. Starting Sept.
'99, all Beanie Babies unsold by retailers maybe
sent back to Ty for a credit. And these Beanies will
be sent to market in Japan. They will do this to stop
Ty direct account from wholeselling which eventually
end up in Safeway and other chain stores. Am I wrong?
Possibly, but if I am right, don't forget where you
        heard it first.
We only have to wait one more day to find out.

August 24, 1999
Fortune, the second Panda in the Beanie Clan, is now officially retired. Will Ty have a new Panda in store for us?

Concerning the August 31st news and rumors flying around... I was speaking with a local non-Hallmark retailer just the other day who stated that her Ty-rep has said nothing of them being cut off from beanies and that they would be able to place their next order soon. She also said something about being able to order items exclusively at trade shows that they must be invited to (probably the exclusives that were just released).

August 27, 1999
Our graduating owl for 1999 is officially retired. Wiser will be missed.
Also, in the Beanie News... Sightings of a Brittannia Beanie Buddy have been proven to be fakes. Ty stated that the "pre-sales" of these items should be ignored since he has created no such buddy at this time.

August 22, 1999
HOT NEWS: Just a few rumors about the big announcement in 9 days...

  1. TY has sold exclusive retail contracts to Hallmark (U.S.A) & Smiths (U.K) for the selling of beanies.
  2. ALL non hologram tagged beanies (all beanies manufactured prior to Jan. 1999) to retire on the 31st of August.
  3. Plenty of new releases scheduled for the same day.
  4. A new bear called Caledonia, probably Scottish, to be in the list of new releases.
  5. New tag changes.
This is all I know for now. What did you find out?

August 21, 1999
Saw this on the Ty cyberboard:

"I got this information from a dealer in oregon.
This person has a store and she had heard the reason
stores could not put in orders for september was
because Ty will be having stores that he will have
control of and no out the back door selling. He will
make it so anyone who walks in will be able to find
the beanie they want. No more long lines and secondary
market. He will retire all present beanies, and start
     a new batch.
What do you think?

August 16, 1999
Finally, something other than Beanie Buddies on the Ty site... Canyon was officially retired today. Are we back on the retirement roller coaster?

August 13, 1999
Woke up this morning to check the mother of all websites, and there was this flashing sign:

So I clicked on it, and this is what I saw:

A very important newsflash will be made August 31, 1999.

Because of it's content, no orders for September should be
anticipated or taken until further notice!

Orders for Clubby Buddies will be accepted.

            Ty Warner

What could this mean? If you have any information behind this announcement, please let us know.

Addition to August 13, 1999 - Rumor does have it that the announcement could possibly be that Ty will begin mail order to the public. This is only the rumor I have heard. If it is true, it could make things interesting (it's hard enough to get through to get a buddy as it is).

August 9, 1999

Nothing new at Ty today. Well, at least not yet. The last retiree was an Attic Treasure. Nothing retired today in Beanies. Keep up the good work with your reports. We are listening.
