PHONEBUSTERS Established in January of 1993, PhoneBusters is a national anti-fraud call centre jointly operated by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. PhoneBusters plays a key role in educating the public about specific fraudulent telemarketing pitches. The call centre also plays a vital role in the collection and dissemination of victim evidence, statistics, documentation and tape recordings which are made available to outside law enforcement agencies.
In Canada, crime has traditionally been dealt with through reactive measures: the apprehension, sentencing, incarceration, and rehabilitation of offenders. This approach, while important, is not sufficient to prevent crime and that is why the Government of Canada launched the National Crime Prevention Strategy. In simple terms, the National Strategy is focused upon community-based early intervention efforts that deal with the root causes of crime and victimization.
The Canada Safety Council is a national, non-government, charitable organization dedicated to safety. Their mission is to lead in the national effort to reduce preventable deaths, injuries and economic loss in public and private places throughout Canada. In 1995, a committee made up of representatives from both Canada and the United States was formed to explore ways of improving export reporting and interdiction methods. These representatives now make up the North American Export Committee. The committee's objective is to develop a model export program that can be used by all North American ports. Model provisions include: Electronic reporting of all exported vehicles Timely, efficient response of trouble messages
