So far, I [the webmaster] am working on a project with the Box Elder High School principal. I've written a detailed letter to him explaining his violations of the inalienable rights guarunteed by the United States Constitution, and will be delivering it soon. A copy is below:

Dear Mr. Swenson,

As concerned students at Box Elder High School, we have several issues to discuss with you in this letter. Please keep in mind that this is not a personal attack against you, rather, a means of peaceful communication. Several attempts to speak with you in person have been made, but we believe this will be the most effective medium of communication.

The first issue of concern is religious freedom/freedom of  expression.

As you may know by now, there are many students of  persuasions other than Christianty enrolled at Box Elder High School.  They wish to express their religious beliefs with symbols and things of such nature, and are continually ridiculed by doing so.  For example, one of these students walks down the hallway, minding his/her own business, and racial slurs are shouted at them. Is this 'freedom?' At first, it was easy to ignore the shouts of 'Freak,'Stupid Goths,' and various other unmentionable  names. However, when the slurs stopped being just words and became acts of hate and violence, that is when it became impossible to ignore. Objects such as soft drink cans and iced-over water bottles are only a few examples of the objects used. These students are discriminated against simply because of their belief system. Is that justice? It is granted that a majority of the student population is 'Christian,' however that gives no right for them to treat those who are not 'Christian' like it is 1692 and the Salem Witch Hunt is at it's prime. Our forefathers guarunteed the right of religious freedom and it WILL NOT be taken away.

"...Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abriding the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

----- Amendment I, United States Constitution

It is apparent that Box Elder High School is not Congress, however, Box Elder High School IS federally funded and is therefore required to abide by Amendment I.

A conversation is recalled from earlier this year that you and this group of students had about wearing religious symbols other than a crucifix[Christian Religious Symbol] or CTR[LDS Religious Symbol]. The question, "Can they [students] wear their religious symbols?" was asked, and your response was "Well I would have to look at them, some religions are not accepted by society."
That is a direct violation of Amendment I. You CANNOT prohibit a student from wearing a religious symbol of ANY kind. It is an INALIENABLE right guarunteed by the United States Constitution. There is no clause in Amendment I that states "religious freedom only for those who are members of society's accepted religions." The American colonists came to the New World to escape religious persecution, and guarunteed future generations religious freedom.

In closing, we hope to remind you that this is America, land of the free and home of the brave and our rights will not be infringed upon.
