I believe that education is a partnership between students and teachers. Students should feel free to express their opinions and thoughts on whatever is being taught, as long as done so in a respectful manner. Education should provide areas for personal, social, and scholastic growth. I believe the purpose for education is to provide society with knowledgeable people who will help make new developments, discoveries, and theories. I believe that students will learn material successfully if the things learned in class are reinforced by experiences. Teaching from a constructivist point of view, I would effectively teach through a variation of methods. This includes interactive group reading, discussions, activities that would get students to reflect on the literature, exercises that would improve their use of literary devices, and other assignments that would help improve their skills. Because I firmly believe that students learn best when instructors have high expectations of them, I will encourage my students to discover, to reach and even to stretch beyond their potential. However, it is not sufficient to merely hold high expectations. Therefore, I will also provide students with the necessary tools for success. |
