Urban Sprawl is... the result of a continuously growing world. People must find somewhere to live and work, and the result is harming the environment. This is a problem, because the environment is an important part of the future of human life. As our natural surroundings disappear, so do natural resources, research posibilities, and an overall healthy planet. (nationalgeographic.com)

Pros and Cons: Urban sprawl may provides more places for people to live, but there are far more problems than pluses. Although urban sprawl provides cheap, preatyt, and accessive housing for all the families desiring the 'American Dream', this dream will soon become a nightmare. As population continues to increase, more than the environment will be affected. Commutes to work are longer, and taxes are rising with each new development. I feel that these issues, along with the loss of our environment, will cause problems if the population increase continues. (nationalgeographic.com)

What can be done? Because little is being done by the government, it is consumers who need to worry about urban spwarl. Buying homes in neighborhoods closer to cities, workplaces, and schools lower the need for developers to expand further. Also, people should do their part in helping the environment in all places, because many factors contribute to the loss of biodiversity and other environmental losses. The only complete solution to this problem is to stop population growth all together. If population does not increase, there would be no need to build new neighborhoods.
