| Firefighter, 26, dies in car crash
By Joel Moroney News Journal MADISON TOWNSHIP A township firefighter was killed in a car accident Thursday morning while on his way to his second job near Tiffin. Timothy M. Burgart, 26, of Mansfield died when the 1998 Dodge Neon he was driving went off the road in a curve, struck an embankment and overturned, the Ohio Highway Patrol reported. The accident occured just before 7:30 a.m. on Morrison Road, north of Ohio 101 in Seneca County. Burgart was wearing his seatbelt. The accident remains under investigation. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash, the patrol said. A firefighter and paramedic for Madison Township since October 2000, Burgart was on his way to work at North Central EMS, a private ambulance service near Tiffin, Madison Fire Chief Keath Markley said. "He was a fantastic firefighter and paramedic and really dedicated to the job. It's going to be a great loss to all of us" Markley said. "I feel very bad for the family. I know they're grieving as are all of us up here." Burgart leaves behind a wife Stephanie, whom he married Sept. 7, and a 13-month-old son, Andrew. Funeral arrangements are pending. |
