Field Hockey

Check out some FH stories

Do you know how many times I've heard that field hockey has a rule that you have to blow the whistle every 15 seconds? Do you know how many people have told me that field hockey is a chick sport and it sucks? BAHHH! I hate people. I am not a very athletic person. All my life I refused to play team sports. Field Hickey was the only sport that looked interesting to me. Forget soccer. I hate soccer,it's boring. People say that it takes more skill to play soccer because you use your feet. Well you've obviously never used a field hockey stick, because although you are using your hands, the stick is a two foot extension of your arms. It is no easy feat.

I started playing field hockey in the seventh grade with the Barnstable Rec Program. I was really bad, I mean really bad. I started playing midfield. I would run around teh field follow the ball, I didn't mark up. It was not a pretty sight. Eighth grade was not much better. But when I got into High School I learned the game. I played one year of JV. Floated my sophmore year, and this year I was a starter. Not bad for a girl who has played FH since seventh grade. I don't think I really understood the game until I had a proper coach. My coach Joy Stowell has led the Montpelier field hockey team to about 15 Championships, and won I think 12. She worked you harder then anybody. We ran a timed mile everyday, we pushed ourselves so hard in drills, but we didn't win. She retired before the season this year.

We had two new coaches this year Alexis and Kristin. They played college field hockey. Good coaches. We actually had fun on the team. It did not matter to me that we won only one game. For as long as I can remember I have hated playing defense. I don't know why. One game 2 seasons ago Coach Stowell put me in as starting right back for JV. I cried. I had a breakdown halfway through the game and balled my eyes out. But this year, Coach made me the starting right halfback. And I was good at it. I won two game balls this season, and made the All League First Team. Quite the accomplishment in my eyes. It was awesome. I love Field Hockey. I wish thatI could play in college, but I am not good enough. My first choice in Northeastern, they are Division 1. GRRRR! Maybe I'll play inetrscholastic in college. I want to coach high school field hockey after college I think. Meh, we'll see. Check out The All League List below. The people who are on my team I have removed their last names for provacy. I don't car about the rest of them.
