| He threatened to announce her true identity, but she mentioned to him that if he did he would also be blackballed from the movie business. He decided to remain quiet. She then moved to the MGM movie company where she was immediately cast in the movie, "The Cameo Girl" in 1930. This part led to a string of small parts, till she got her break and a lead in the 1938 movie, "My Best Girl." This is where she met Lance Chasez. He was your typical Hollywood man, looks that would stop traffic and a personality to make even the sternest woman melt into a puddle. This led to 12 years of successful relationship and lead roles with famous leading men like Van Johnson, Clark Gable, and Humphrey Bogart. Lance and Lana loved each other dearly, but they did not want to be married for fear it would ruin what they had going. By the beginning of the 50's she started noticing that roles for older actresses were few and far between. So when she heard about the new lead role for an older actress she knew this would be the part for her, plus it had a very important new director that would give her great exposure. So as usual it was eleven o'clock and she still wasn't out of bed, so the maid delivered her mail to her room. Walking into the room, the maid looked at the closed, faded drapes that hadn't been open in years, and wondered would they ever be open again. As she walked past the tarnished Angel statue, she lightly brushed her finger on it, and realized it was time to clean again. Handing Lana the mail, the maid picked up the ragged clothes that were scattered all over the floor. |
