| Are you mixed?? I was approached once by a woman who asked... Are you mixed?? Can you believe it? Someone asking me or anyone for that matter about race. What does it matter? I thought. I was just wondering, she said. You have such beautiful, thick hair. Well thank you for the compliment, I said. But thought to myself, what are you trying to say. Black people have short, thin hair. My mom doesn't have short, thin hair. In fact, my mother has long, thick black hair down to her waist. Are you mixed?? The strange thing about this encounter was taht it wasn't the first time someone has questioned my race. I never thought a persons skin color and hair determine their race. I mean, I've always heard that saying, if you are part white and part black, you are considered black. But I have never taken it to heart. Are you mixed?? |
