It's the End of the World!
Again?
"Gigantic lightneing bolts occur in the upper atmosphere, violent winds occur, and petrochemicals formed in teh sky rain down in Firestorms; then, as the core of the Earth attempts to align magnetically with the gigantic comet, there is a pole shift with contenental rip and sinking and rising land; how gigantic tidal waves assult the coasts, though water movement began when rotation stopped, and an ocean vortex can form; how plate shifts can result in a sinking Atlantic floor, affecting the surrounding shorelines; but how the other planets will be little affected."

This is supposed to happen in the late spring/early summer of this year (2003), according to the Zeta aliensa through their earthly contact, Nancy. This is a translation of a prophesy. They claim that there is a comet (also called Planet X) that travels by Earth's galaxy every 3,657 years. It has been mathematically proven by Zeta followers that the tail of said comet will supposedly pass over the earth, stopping Earth's rotation for three days. That's when the aforementioned prophecy will happen.

What is the end of the world? Many prophets, philosophers, and documents state that the end of the world will come in a time of anarchy, fire, and nuclear meltdown. The people of my generation and those connected to it all remember Y2K suspicions: that all the records and systems tied to computers would be wiped blank and lost in the void of the Internet. This proplem would throw the entire world into utter mayhem and there would be no way to stop it. Nothing happened. I only heard of one event where anything went wrong, and that was in a video rental store, resulting in the due dates messing up and someone ending up with a few million years of late charges. Hardly a matter of national anxiety. So there's one prophecy, for lack of a better term, that fell through.

Doomsday, Armageddon, Apocalypse, Total Nuclear Destruction: in my opinion, all ideas of an end to the world by some unfortunate circumstance all started with the Bible. The Bible speaks of the coming of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:
"It's rider's name was Death, and Hades followed with him; they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and pestilence, and by the wild animals of the earth." (Revelation 6:7) Though the Bible has been translated so many differnet ways, I believe that the Bible considered the Four Horsemen to be Death, War, Famine, and Pestilence. When all four run rampant in the world, the Apocalypse will occur. This was one of the oldest and most believed prophecys of doom.

The bible also talks about an "Antichrist" that will rise in the future along with the reincarnation of Jesus. During this event, Jesus will take all the worthy Christains up to join him, whild the Antichrist throws the world into chaos. Of course, many people over the years have been called the Antichrist by prophets, including England's Prince William, of all people. There is always the pressing question, does he bear the mark of the '666'? Antichrist is allegedly marked with that sign either on his forehead, or on the back of his right hand. Prince William with reach the height of his power on Feb. 12, 2006, says an unknown internet prophet.

The oldest known prophecy was found on an Assyrian clay tablet dating back to the year 2800 BCE. On it were the words
"Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speddily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." To some, that prophecy strikes deep into their hearts because that is common now. Sometimes prophecies will eerily come true. There was an event in Aberfan, south Wales, in 1966, where a wet slag tip (a giant chunk of rock and turf) crashed into a school full of children. There had been researched premonitions of this event; some from dreams, other relevant or straightforward images from 'visions', some even appearing in the children's drawings at the school. All these warnings were ignored or disnissed as nonsense.

Some people even use complicated equations to prove their prophecies. Take Michael Drosnin's book,
The Bible Codes, where he claimed, "I checked the 'World War' and "Atomic Holocaust' against all three ways to write each Hebrew year for the next 120 years, only two years matched both--5760 and 5766, in the modern calander, the years 2000 and 2006." Extra: The Atomic Holocaust mentioned, will be started by Syria, Michael claims.

Another example was an article published by
Science magazine in 1960: The article said that by the author's calculations, the world's population would reach infinity on Nov. 13, 2026. That's less than 23 years from now.

Even through all the predictions of doom (and the multiple revisions of many a prophet's words upon the date that their prophecies were supposed to happen) has anything
really led someone to believe that the end of the world was coming? (I am excluding apocalypse cults in this statement because their beliefes could just be the effects of drugs, a really good public speaker, or both.) Just in 2002, there were claims that the world would be engulfed in a nuclear war now and 12 years previous. Though this is a very real concern of the world at large, were the prophets just playing on public unrest? Most likely. Even though the world should be long dead by now, I do still seem to be living.
