Checkmate It is a daring game we play, To be so close yet keep away The feeling that lays deep inside A thin veil under which we hide. Waiting for Epiphany When all the hearts will then be free. No lyric rhyme, no stanza'd verse Could possibly have told me worse. A feint, a check, a block, defense; Your scattered world makes no sense. But I'm living in a fantasy, So strangeness isn't hard to see You capture me with those logic eyes, Blue; and meant to hypnotize. You move a rook, I take a pawn, The pieces now are almost gone. The game we're playing is at an end Am I but one you call a friend? Jenn Szostek
