A REAL Mission: Impossible, Part Two by Belle Book Inside the Israel Museum Carmen was heading toward the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were being kept. In a way, her choice of what to steal was perfect. After all, the name of the prison going to be was named Gehenna, and that was a Biblical name. And that prison was where she was going to wind up, if all went according to plan. She had gotten in the museum quickly, and efficiently, by means of a hook which fired out of a device on her other wrist, and a line which was attached to the hook. And just to make certain Zack and Ivy would be alerted to her presence, she had even allowed a guard to see her sneaking into the museum. Normally, she would be a little more careful to not alert people as to her intentions, but this was different. This was part of her plan, and part of the challenge that she had set herself. And she would not fail this one. And there it was! The Shrine of the Book! Just where she knew it would be. It was time. A minute later, just outside the Shrine of the Book The C-5 Corridor was accurate for once, Ivy thought, as it deposited her and Zack just outside the Shrine of the Book. Zack opened the door slightly and peeked inside. "What do you see?" asked Ivy. "Carmen!" said Zack. "She's at the place where the Dead Sea Scrolls are being kept." "Well, this time, Carmen's not going to get away from us so easily," said Ivy. "Let's go!" "Maybe we should wait a minute," said Zack. "After all, the police have been alerted and are on their way." But Ivy kicked the door open, and interrupted Carmen by saying, "What are you up to THIS time, Carmen?" Carmen turned around, holding the scrolls in her hand. "Well, well, just who I wanted to see. I think Sherlock Holmes said, 'The game's afoot.'" And with that, Carmen turned and ran toward a side exit, the scrolls in her hand, saying, "Come and catch me, detectives." Ivy didn't need to be asked twice. She ran after Carmen, with Zack right behind Ivy. This time, Carmen wouldn't get away from them. Ivy and Zack would make sure of that. Carmen looked behind her as she ran through rooms filled with various treasures. Sure enough, Zack and Ivy were right behind her. They thought this time they would get her. And thanks to her device "failing," they would. Only to learn, too late, that she had planned this all along, that she had planned all this just to take on the challenge Zack had presented to her. 'Now where was those stairs that would take her all the way up to the roof of the Israel Museum?' Carmen wondered as she turned and ran down a hallway. Yes, there were the stairs. Just where she knew they'd be. After all, she had studied the maps of the Israel Museum after deciding on this crime. She had needed to find her way about the museum, after all. Here came Ivy and Zack, chasing her down. The game was afoot. Ivy and Zack raced up the stairs after Carmen. 'What was she up to this time?' Ivy thought. Well, it didn't matter. This time, they'd catch her. Ivy got to the second floor only to see that Carmen was going higher. She turned to Zack and asked, "How many levels does the Israel Museum have?" "Two levels. But the stairs go up all the way to the roof." "She's trying to get away again!" Ivy said angrily. And with that, she raced up after Carmen. Seconds later, Ivy burst through the door leading to the roof, with a very tired Zack following. Now where was Carmen? Then Ivy saw her, on the far side of the roof. "We got her, Zack!" Ivy said, as Zack emerged, panting. "There's no way off the roof!" "You forget one thing, Ivy," said Carmen, cool as always. "For me, there's always a way out of every situation. And a way off of any roof." And with that, Carmen seemed to touch something on her left wrist. Immediately, a spear flew out of her hand, and struck a tree outside the museum grounds. Attached to it was a line, which Carmen began tying to the railing at the edge of the roof. Ivy then realized what Carmen was up to, and began running toward her, with Zack right behind her. But she was too late, for Carmen pushed something else on her right wrist, and a pulley came out. Carmen then leapt off the roof and flew down the line toward the tree on the other side. Ivy said, "Come on, Zack!" And with that, she grabbed the line, and began to follow Carmen. But just as Zack was about to climb over the railing to follow Ivy, he noticed something. "Ivy, look!" he shouted. Ivy turned. Carmen was about halfway across. But something was wrong with the pulley. It began to slow down, and then, all of a sudden, it stopped! Carmen looked up and frowned, then disengaged herself from the pulley. She dropped gracefully down to the ground. No small feat, considering her heels. Then she began to run. Ivy dropped down and landed, not as gracefully as Carmen. In fact, she fell to her knees, and had difficulty getting up after Carmen. Up above her, Zack ran toward the stairs. Carmen ran toward the fence surrounding the museum, but the police had arrived and were now blocking the way toward the fence with their cars. Then, other police cars arrived to surround Carmen. She was trapped! Policemen jumped out saying in English and Hebrew, "Give yourself up, Carmen Sandiego! We've got you surrounded!" Ivy raced over, not believing her good fortune. The last time Carmen Sandiego's escape device failed her, Zack's rabbit foot had gotten stuck in the pulley. That hadn't happened this time, and yet, against all odds, Carmen's escape device failed her! Just as Ivy was thinking all this, Carmen looked around her at the police surrounding her. Then slowly, reluctantly, she raised her hands. A policeman put the handcuffs around Carmen's wrists just as Ivy arrived. Carmen Sandiego, the world's most elusive thief, had just been captured! It was a dream come true to Ivy. At that moment, Zack came racing across the lawn, saying, "What happened, sis?" Ivy said, "We did it, little bro! We captured Carmen Sandiego!" "We did?" asked Zack in disbelief. "We did!" cried Ivy. But neither of them, in the midst of their joy, noticed the faint smile on Carmen's face as she stood in chains preparing to be led away. They had caught her. But she had let them catch her. And now, now, the real game was about to begin. To be continued....
