Part 76- Cut the Line
I wasn't too happy about going to Hong Kong since all I really wanted to do was go see Miya in Japan but I didn't have the luxury of doing that right now. I got my ticket and the next afternoon, I met up with Aoki, Toki and Mikkie at the airport. Toki chewing on his thumb as he sat down, his leg shaking like crazy, Aoki was just standing. Mikkie was the only one who was relaxed. I went over to them as we waited for the plane to start boarding. I sat down as I looked at Toki's leg which was shaking a lot faster now. I looked at Mikkie as I said,
"What's wrong with him?"
"Fining for a cigarette."
Toki didn't even respond. He kept chewing on the end of his thumbnail as his leg shook. Aoki turned to us as he said,
"How much longer we have until the plane starts boarding?"
"About ten minutes."
"We can make it!"
Toki shot up as he suddenly went off running, Aoki, surprisingly, following him. I was a little suprised I wasn't like that myself, but that was probably because I had a cigarette on my way over here. Mikkie was sitting calmly, quietly as always as he held his hands on his lap, over his crossed legs. He checked his watch as he said,
"Hope they make it in time."
I nodded as I said,
"How long were they here for?"
"Almost an hour."
"Oh."
As the plane announced that they were now boarding first class passengers, Mikkie and myself saw them both walking back calmly. When they saw us boarding, they still walked slowly, not really caring and Mikkie went ahead. I followed him as I went to my seat and sat down for a few hours of sleep and rest for me.
I woke up a little bit later when they were serving dinner. I wasn't hungry, for once, because I was still tired. Toki was sound asleep, his head on Mikkie's shoulder as Mikkie stayed still, reading a magazine as he had a drink beside him. Aoki was having a drink but no dinner. I yawned, stretching my arms up carefully as I said,
"What time is it?"
"Still have a long way to go Aka-chan."
I looked at Aoki as he took a drink from his glass. I nodded before slouching back down and went back to sleep.
Some hours later, we arrived in Hong Kong. We were still jet lagged and a little tired. Mikkie had to shove Toki's head off his shoulder because he didn't wake up right away. Toki rubbed his eyes, standing up as he pulled his hat on straight as we left once the plane let us. We walked through the airport and outside where the three of us lit up. Mikkie tied his hair up as he said,
"We should-"
"Go to sleep first."
Mikkie looked at Toki as he said,
"You just slept for a solid thirteen hour flight without barely moving your head how can you still think of sleeping?"
"I didn't mean for me, I meant for you and Aoki."
"I'm not tired."
"Yes you are neko-chan."
"Don't call me that."
"You tellin me not to call you somethin ever work?"
Mikkie rolled his eyes as he said,
"We should get to work right away..."
He paused as he yawned and Aoki said,
"Toki's right. We should get some rest first. No way in hell can we work jet lagged."
Mikkie gave up with a sigh as we then hailed a cab. Toki sat beside me since he had the window seat, I went in after him, Mikkie followed and Aoki got the other window seat. He then said,
"It's just you and me now Aka-chan."
I sorta cringed as he smirked at me. I looked away as Mikkie was dropped off first. Once there a little more room, we moved out a little as Aoki lit a cigarette and said,
"Why didn't you get out Toki?"
"When?"
"When we dropped of Mikkie."
"Oh, because I know he's tired. I'll give him sometime to rest before I go to his place."
"I was about to say. Because everyone in this cab knows you two are fucking."
"I know."
Toki exhaled, the smoke going out the window as I looked down at my hands. I was glad neither one of them was talking to me mostly because the conversation was about sex and the only people on my mind were Akio, Ichiro and Miya.
I got home a little while later and then decided to eat since I wasn't all that tired anymore. Once I got to a restaurant, I ordered and then sat down and waited as I had some of my tea. I should drink something else, but frankly, as much as I'm smoking lately, tea is the only good thing I'm putting in my body. Anyway, as I waited, I felt my cell phone go off and I knew it couldn't be Mikkie since he was dead asleep so I looked to see Toki's name. I answered as I said,
"Yeah?"
"Okay, ask me how bored I am."
"Why?"
"Just ask me."
"How bored are you?"
"So fuckin bored I'm callin you to see what you doin."
"I'm about to eat."
"You forever hungry Aka-chan. Where's all that food goin?"
"I don't know."
"Damn, I'm bored. Where you at?"
"You'll actually come join me for dinner?"
"Sure, I'll join ya. Not eating, but I'll join ya."
I sighed and then told him where I was. A little while later, once my dinner came, Toki showed up. He sat down across from me as the waitress asked him if he would like anything.
"Gin and tonic."
He settled down as he then said,
"I'm bored."
"We established this already."
He went into his pockets and took out a cigarette as he lit it and said,
"I hate fuckin Hong Kong. Aint shit to do, girls are all scrawny and shit so are the boys an I hate it here."
I laughed as I said,
"Is that all you can do?"
"What?"
"Complain and think about fucking?"
"For the most part."
He smirked as the waitress came back with his drink. I went to have my dinner as he smoked and drank. I then said,
"Don't you ever get hungry?"
"On the rare occasion."
"No wonder you're so skinny."
He frowned as he said,
"Yeah but I got enough muscle on me to get by and make a lot of people happy."
I rolled my eyes as I then said,
"We should get to work tonight. All we have to do is-"
"Find Kenimin's kids, make a move before Kenimin knows we even here and bust a cap in all his sorry children's asses. I know."
"When Mikkie and Aoki wake up, shouldn't we get going?"
"Yeah but I already took care of the small shit."
"Small shit?"
"Meaning like, where Kenimin's kids at, where his wife an family is an all that other good shit."
"When?"
"When we landed. What you think I jus chase ass an whine all day?"
I shrugged as he smirked and took another drink from his glass as he finished it. He sighed as he got the waitress's attention and asked for another. I ate quickly after that and then lit a cigarette as I said,
"When are Mikkie and Aoki gonna be up?"
"Aoki said to call him in like a hour. And I gotta get Mikkie soon. So if you're done, pay an let's get my neko-chan."
I nodded, asking for the check as I then paid and we both left.
We arrived at Mikkie's apartment building a little while later since it wasn't too far from where we were before. I wasn't at all surprised that Toki got in with no trouble and knew what floor Mikkie's apartment was on. When we got to the door, Toki leaned on it for a minute before he went into his pocket and got out a set of keys. He then opened the lock and walked right in. I wasn't at all surprised he had a set of keys to Mikkie's place either. I stood in the doorway as I went into my pocket, getting out a cigarette as I lit it and then smoked. I watched as Toki went down the hall and to the half way opened bedroom door. He walked in and it was quiet for a while before I heard Toki's voice telling him that we had to go. It got quiet for a while again before a light turned on. From the door that Toki left open, I could see Mikkie was in bed, his hair tied up and he was still dressed from before as Toki laid over him. I saw how Mikkie was more relaxed around him because he thought they were alone. And I decided to let him feel that way as I stepped outside and leaned against the wall. After a little while, they both came out as Mikkie closed and locked the door behind him. He didn't say anything to me as he buttoned his coat and we both left. We got to Aoki's place where Toki called him and pretty soon the four of us went to work. It was two in the morning.
The first thing we did was listen to Toki's information. Since he knew where Kenimin's children were, it made it all the easier for us. I wasn't feeling too well about having to go kill another child especially since that kept me up for a whole night before, but I had to. Aoki split us up, me with Mikkie, Toki with him. After we got directions, we all split up and went to work. Mikkie was silent as always, his blonde hair tied up as he wore his black suit and tie. We walked down a busy city street as I took notice of the street we were on as Mikkie then stopped making me almost bump into him as he said,
"What street did Toki say that the first lived on?"
"Uh..."
I checked the street as I said,
"This one actually."
"Good. Then that should be the building."
I looked across the street at the two towers standing side by side. It reminded me of the Kuala Lumpur buildings because of the height and color. The evening sky painted them in a beautiful color. Anyway, Mikkie started to cross the street and I followed him as we went inside. There was no guards around to be seen, no one to really stop us. We went ahead, taking the stairwell like before as I softly said,
"What floor?"
"Fourteenth."
So we went up slowly, checking for guards along the way, finding there were none until the thirteenth floor. There we saw a few lingering on the floor near the elevator as if they were expecting us. But we kept going up until we heard someone talk. Mikkie and I stopped as we leaned against the wall under the stairs as we looked at each other. There was no way we could go past them without making a lot of noise. Mikkie whispered to me,
"We have to get to that floor without making a sound."
I nodded as I said,
"How?"
He thought for a minute before I went into my pockets, searching around, moving my cigarettes and my lighter as I found the switch blade Akio had given me long before. I took it out as I flicked my wrist and extracted the blade. Mikkie nodded as he said,
"That'll work."
So we drew down the guards from their floor to ours. As Mikkie took care of one, I got the other. Once rendering them dead and/or unconscious, we kept going upwards. On the fourteenth floor we walked out, down the hall as we noticed another guard at a door. Mikkie gestured to me to get rid of him without a sound so I did just that, going up behind him, slitting his throat and catching his body before it hit the ground. I pulled it to the side as Mikkie took out his gun and knocked on the door casually. The door opened just a little as we saw Xiao Lung, Kenimin's first, at the door. Mikkie raised his gun, backing up slightly as he shot him. The door was pushed back once he fell and we walked in as I saw Xiao Lung's wife gasp as she rushed her kids inside a room. I shot her and she fell to the ground. She didn't even make a sound. I looked at Mikkie as I said,
"The kids?"
"We gotta get them. They're old enough to talk and pick us out."
I went to the door that Xiao Lung's wife had pushed them past as I turned the knob, finding it wouldn't give. Mikkie sighed as he moved me back and kicked at the door, breaking it easily. We both went inside as we saw the two boys, Xiao Lung's first and his second. The oldest was about ten maybe eleven, the youngest about eight or so. They stood still, the oldest in front of the little one, trying to protect him as Mikkie raised his gun and without even flinching killed them both. He checked his clip as he said,
"We should go."
I nodded as I turned and left, following Mikkie out the door.
I was again quiet as Mikkie took out his cell phone when it rang as he answered. He spoke for a few minutes before he hung up and said,
"They took care of the third and second. The last one of Kenimin's children is Stephen and he's in Vegas."
"Okay. So what now?"
"Now, we regroup and call Jia."
So we did. We met up for an early breakfast, late dinner whatever you wanna call it at some coffee place. I got something to eat while we waited for Aoki and Toki to show up. Mikkie had a cup of coffee as I had some bread and cake. Eventually they showed up and we talked.
"The second and third are dead. And Kenimin's gonna be pissed so we gotta get the hell out of here as soon as possible." Said Toki.
"Did Jia say anything else we should do?" Asked Mikkie.
"Nah, we jus told him what happened and he said to get out of there before Kenimin even realizes we're here."
I nodded, biting into my bread as Mikkie said,
"So we're done here?"
"Yeah pretty much so."
Aoki then pushed up his glasses as he said,
"What we should do is leave tomorrow morning, first thing. If we wait any longer, he'll find out about us being here for sure."
Mikkie nodded as he said,
"But it's too late to book tickets or do anything now."
"True. We'll just go tomorrow morning. We'll meet at the airport at seven."
"In the morning?!" Said Toki.
"No Toki at night so Kenimin can find us."
Toki frowned as I smiled a little, biting into the last of my bread as Aoki then said,
"We should go now, get home before anyone sees us."
So we then agreed to meet tomorrow at seven as we then left for our own apartments.
The next morning, as tired as I was, I bought a cup of coffee as I headed out the airport by cab. I rubbed my eyes as I kept yawning the whole way, looking forward to going back home. Once I arrived, I saw Mikkie already there. He was talking to the woman at the desk where he was making flight reservations. I joined him as I said,
"Any luck?"
"We'll have to wait for a nine o'clock flight but we can get out of here today."
I nodded as I paid for my share of my tickets. A little while later, Toki and Aoki came in. Toki was sloppily dressed, his jeans hanging lower then usual and everytime he raised his arms, you saw the lower part of his stomach. If his jeans got any lower then...well...you know. He wore a wife beater on top and he had a white shirt wrapped around his head like a bandanna. Aoki was calm, in his usual full length coat, dress pants underneath and a black button down. He had his sunglasses on as always as he stuck his hands in his pockets. Toki yawned as he said,
"How much were tickets?"
"Don't worry about it."
Toki smirked as he said,
"Aww, thank you neko-chan."
Mikkie didn't say anything or didn't even bother to look back at Toki. Toki and Aoki stood around for a while. talking to each other as Toki held up the legs of his pants. He was wearing his boots that were unlaced this time and looked like they were going to fall off his feet if he ran. Aoki then turned to Mikkie as he said,
"What time is the flight?"
"At nine."
"Shit we got a plenty of time then."
Toki said as he took out his cigarettes. Aoki nodded as he started to leave to have one and I said,
"Mikkie, I'll be right back."
He nodded as I went to have one as well. Once we were outside, we all lit up as Toki put his arms over his head, resting them there as he exhaled and said,
"Fuck, I'm so tired. Barely got any sleep."
"You're forever complaining about something Toki."
"I know. But I am."
Aoki shook his head as he smoked, exhaling as he said,
"The flight doesn't even take that long back to Tokyo so we can't even catch any sleep on the way there."
"Nah and that's what sucks."
Toki brought one of his arms down as he put the cigarette in his mouth and left it there as he brought his arms back over. He inhaled as he exhaled through his nose and said,
"It's type hot here."
"I know."
I continued to smoke as I looked around, watching people walking in and out with cases of luggage. I smoked quietly, just listening in on the conversation as I had my cigarette, pulling my own jeans so they wouldn't drag on the floor. Then Toki turned to me and said,
"You been quiet."
I shrugged as I exhaled and said,
"I was smoking."
He laughed slightly as did Aoki and then Toki said,
"Excited to get back home?"
"Sorta."
"Got that fine piece of ass waiting."
"He's not mine anymore."
Toki kinda scoffed as he said,
"Shit, if you ain't nailin him can I?"
"Don't you have enough to worry about?" Said Aoki.
"One more never hurt anyone."
"You're not nailing Miya. And I haven't fixed stuff with him yet."
"By the looks of all them fuckin hickeys, you ain't gonna either."
I rubbed my neck as I said,
"Ah...well..."
"You fuckin someone else huh?"
"That's none of your business if I was."
"You obviously are if you got them marks all over you and on your collar bones and of course the tall tale marks on your arms."
He picked up my arm and turned it so my wrist would be facing upwards as I saw small fingerprint marks that I could have sworn went away but obviously didn't. I moved my arm back as I said,
"That could be anything."
Aoki and Toki looked at each other with a smirk and then Aoki threw his cigarette down as he said,
"I'm going back inside. It's as hot as hell out here."
Toki finished up, taking the last of his cigarette as he said,
"Yeah, I'm going in too."
I finished my cigarette alone before going back to wait for our plane.
After the plane came, boarded and took us back to Japan, we were greeted by Jia, Aya, Akio and Jun. Jun was glad to see Mikkie and they spoke for a moment as Jia and Toki hugged each other as if they had not seen each other in years. Aya went to Aoki right away, giving him a hug as well and Akio said hi to me. After we settled down, Jia said,
"I'll give you time to rest. We'll speak later tonight."
So we took separate cabs home and I went to my own apartment. Akio didn't accompany me like he usually did. I found out he had something to do. I had recently started to notice how little by little he was inching himself away from me. Which meant he was getting bored of me. I didn't pursue, I didn't ask, I expected it. So I wasn't surprised at all that he no longer wanted to spend as much time with me as before. I didn't care, I expected nothing less then that from the Playboy. I went home and showered before going to sleep for a few hours. When I woke up again, it was late afternoon and I got up, changed into my casual stuff again as I went to the city and went to find my Miya. I went to his job where I saw him walking around, putting some stuff away. I followed him for a little while before he noticed me.
"Jo!"
He hugged me, putting his arms around me as I held him in return. Ah, he never felt so good in my arms. I kissed his cheek as he then moved back as he said,
"It feels like forever since the last time I saw you."
"Been working."
"I know."
He went back to arranging some books as I said,
"When do you have a break or get off or something?"
"Not until later."
"Aw."
He smiled as he walked, going ahead with his job as I said,
"I missed you."
"Missed you too."
"What did you do when I was away?"
"Same stuff I did when you were here. Work, school, the usual."
"You're so busy lately."
"So are you."
"Yeah but I'm back home now...still have to work but I should be getting more time off soon."
"Good."
"Miya? What's wrong?"
He looked at me as he said,
"Nothing. Why?"
"You just...seem different somehow."
"Nah. Just a little tired."
"Oh."
He stopped for a minute as he said,
"Jo, why do you still wanna see me?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean why come out of your way to see me, tell me you miss me and all that?"
"Because I do."
He raised an eyebrow as he said,
"Oh?"
"Yeah. Why do you question it?"
"It's that everytime I see you, you got some kind of new mark on you. I have to wonder in between all your work and your fun, when do you have time to miss me much less think about me."
"But I do."
"I'm not saying you don't. I just find it hard to believe."
"Miya..."
I felt bad. I felt so bad. I took his hand but he didn't even let me hold it because he clenched his fingers up into a ball and withdrew his hand as he said,
"Jo, you really need to get your priorities straight."
"I do got them straight."
"Oh, obviously."
"Miya, this is nothing."
"It's something to me."
He walked away a little as he went back to work and I said,
"I don't mean to hurt you."
"You don't mean a lot of things Jo."
"Miya don't say that."
"Maybe you should move...I should say, keep moving ahead. Stop looking over you shoulder at me."
"I love you."
"Love you too. But that isn't obviously enough."
"Miya..."
"Jo, just, stop okay. I don't know what your intention was to see me again but it's just not going to happen."
"Damn Miya what do you from me? Undying devotion? Eternal love?"
"I should ask you that."
"But you have all that from me."
"Maybe, but it's not enough for you to stop fucking anyone you see."
I sighed as I said,
"Are you saying you don't want to see me anymore?"
"Yeah...pretty much."
I frowned and I could feel my heart breaking all over again. It was a horrible feeling the first time and the second time wasn't any less painless. I didn't say anything else as I turned and left. I had a cigarette outside as I checked my watch and went back home to change.
Once back at the office, Jia held his meeting with everyone, going over what had happened. I stayed quiet the whole time, looking down at the floor as I tried not to think about Miya again but failing miserably. Mikkie gave all the details, explaining how each of Kenimin's children and grandchildren were killed.
"And the last one is Stephen who is in Vegas and childless. He doesn't want to take control of Kenimin's empire."
Nishiki, who had also joined the meeting said,
"That's good. Kenimin can't force him, especially if he doesn't know where he is and you have control of his daughter."
"Exactly. I plan on using that to my advantage. Once Kenimin dies naturally, I'll divorce this girl and take Hong Kong for myself."
"Jia, won't Kenimin suspect that you'll have something to do with the fact that most of his family was killed off?" Asked Gabriel.
"Probably, but he won't have any proof. He doesn't know these four went to Hong Kong. So what he doesn't know, won't effect me."
We all agree as Jia then dismisses us. Just then his phone rings and everyone stops moving to look at it. Jia reached over to his desk and picked it up as he brought it to his ear.
"Hai."
He looks at all of us, one by one as he smiled slightly as he then said,
"Ah, I see Kenimin. I'm sorry to hear that."
Toki smirked as he looked at Aoki. The rest of us just listened in. Jia then nodded as he said,
"I understand. I'll speak to you soon."
He hung up as he said,
"He just found about it."
We knew we would have to deal with it later, but for now, Jia let us go.
