Part 70 - Pressure to Break
We were back in Tokyo, back home back to rest. The first thing I did the next day was get dressed and went to Miya's job. I got his hours from one of the girls that worked there. She was flirting enough with me that I managed to persuade her to get a schedule out for me and show me Miya's hours. Once I memorized them, I thanked her and promised I'd come back. I then left. I wanted to get another copy of Gravitation but I needed to see Miya first. I figured he was at class now so I just waited around all day for something to do. I lit a cigarette as I walked, yawning as I hated being bored. I had nothing to do too. Akio, Gabriel and Tai were all busy with Jia and had to look over things about Hong Kong which left me bored. Nishiki was there too. I wish I was New York. At least that way I could have something to do. Or someone...I wandered into Shinjuku Park and sat down on a bench as I thought of Ichiro. Ichiro forever on my mind now. My kiss marks from him now gone and all I was left with was a couple of memories from those few nights. I wish he had a reason to come to Japan or for me to go to New York but by the looks of things, unless something major happens, I'll still be here, Ichiro will still be in New York. I wished Miya would come home from class. I seriously had nothing to do for a few hours.
I found myself buying lunch and walking to Miya's place later that afternoon. Miya didn't have to go to work until later so I was going to take the time to spend with him. When he came home, he was surprised to see me.
"Jo! What are you doing here?"
He hugged me, his arms around me as I hugged him back, kissing his cheek as I said,
"I knew you would be home soon."
"I'm glad you came. Today is perfect anyway, I don't have to go to work until later."
"Good."
As if I didn't know. He and I started walking back to his apartment as I brought the take out with me. He was thankful I had bought him something to eat since he said he was starving. I had been invited to his apartment a while back before I left for Hong Kong but I was always glad to be invited again. We sat down, talking for a while. He asked how Hong Kong was and I told him the truth.
"It was so fucking boring."
He laughed as he said,
"Why?"
"I didn't really do anything. My boss had some things to take care of with this other guy there."
"Oh...I see."
"Yeah so not much really happened."
He nodded, going back to his eat as he tucked some of his hair behind his ear as he then said,
"You seem better this time."
"What do you mean?"
"Like....more relaxed. Sometimes you seem tense."
"I am sometimes. You seem more relaxed yourself."
"I guess."
I smiled, reached towards his hand as I clasped it. He smiled as his hair fell back around his face and I said,
"I love you."
He smiled slightly as he said,
"I love you too."
I was content with holding his hand, feeling him hold my fingers in return. I only felt this content with Miya...Miya and no one else. I smiled at him as I said,
"What time do you have work?"
"Not for another two hours."
I nodded and we went back to eating. Spending time with Miya made me remember why I fell in love with him in the first place. Aside from his physical sense, his body, the feel of his skin, his smile, his eyes, his hair, I loved how he understood me better then anyone else. Eventually I walked him to work and I completed my day because I finally bought another copy of Gravitation.
Akio came over later to bother me while I was trying to read. I was eating on my bed, a plate of rice dumpling sitting beside me as I read, getting into it. Akio was bugging me by moving my plate everytime I reached for another dumpling. I looked over at him at one point and said,
"I'm trying to read."
He kissed the back of my shoulder as he said,
"I know."
"Then will you please stop moving my plate?"
"You didn't even offer me one."
"Sorry. Have one. Just ONE."
He laughed as he took one and bit into it. I went back to my reading as he said,
"What you do all day?"
"I saw Miya. Had lunch with him...took him to work."
"That's it?"
"Yeah."
"Hm...wait so what happened to that guy you were fucking?"
"Who?"
"That's what I asked before."
"Oh, no...that's like...not an all the time thing."
"I see."
I went back to reading as he laid down and finally stayed still. By the time I was done, Akio was asleep. Rather then wake him, I checked the clock seeing it was like almost twelve and then I went to change and got into my pajamas and got in bed, tucking Akio in with me. I woke up the next morning with my cell phone ringing. I picked it up as I felt Akio's hand on my waist, his head lolling back on my shoulder. I answered my phone as I said,
"Moshi moshi."
"Hey Aka-chan."
"Ohayo Jia."
"You busy?"
"No."
"Good. Do me a favor."
"Of course Jia."
"Call Akio and both of you meet me at my apartment. Don't wait in the lobby just come upstairs."
"Sure. Is something wrong?"
"No, I'm just about to get up and I'm not in the mood to take a cab to work."
"Okay, we'll be there in about an hour."
"Okay. Later."
We hung up as I turned and nudged Akio awake.
"Wake up Akio."
"What? Why?"
"We have to get going to Jia's place in an hour and I know you need it."
He yawned as he hugged me and said,
"Why'd you tell Jia I'd go?"
"He called for you not me."
He sighed as he turned, getting out of bed and then he kissed my cheek, saying he would see me in an hour.
I got to Jia's apartment forty-five minutes later. I parked the car in front of his building as I got out and went inside the lobby. I didn't bother to wait for Akio since I knew he would be late and I went upstairs to Jia's apartment. I knocked on the door and waited for a response and finally Jia answered. He allowed me inside as I took off my shoes and said,
"Ohayo."
"Ohayo. Where's Akio?"
"On his way. What can I do?"
"I'm trying to get Toki out of bed and get some food in him before we go to work."
"Oh okay."
I then stood still again as he said,
"You can have a seat."
I bowed my head slightly as I went to his living room and sat down. As Jia stopped for a moment to do the noose on his tie, I looked down as I saw a familiar fluff of blonde fur. I leaned down, stroking the kitten behind his ear as I said,
"I thought Toki got rid of it."
Jia rolled his eyes as he adjusted his tie and said,
"No, he kept it. Even after I said no."
I gave a smile, having a feeling Jia couldn't say no to Toki even if he really meant it. I picked up the kitten as I stroked it again and leaned back against the couch and looked down at the kitten, his wide hazel eyes peering back up at me. I noticed it started getting very comfortable on my lap as if he belonged there. I raised an eyebrow as I said,
"Perverted cat...just like his owner."
I then heard Jia yelling at Toki since Toki wasn't getting up any time soon. A door slammed as the shouting was muffled slightly as I looked down at the kitten.
"You want something to eat? We'll get you something to eat."
I got up to the kitchen as I left the kitten near a bowl on the floor and filled it with the remainder of the milk in the fridge. When I was done, I heard someone knock on the door and I went to answer knowing it was Akio. After making sure, I opened the door and saw him. I allowed him inside as he said,
"Where's Jia and Toki?"
I pointed to the back of the apartment as the arguing continued. Eventually Jia came out as he sighed and saw Akio and I standing near the door.
"Hey Akio. Sorry I'm already running behind."
"It's okay. I know Toki's got something to do with it."
The bedroom door opened as Toki came out and said,
"Shut up Playboy."
Akio smiled as Toki pulled his fleece over his head and pulled a hat on his flat black hair, the blonde bangs sticking out still. He rubbed his eyes as Jia got his coat on and said,
"Okay we have to go eat."
"I didn't feed Baby Mikkie."
"I already did." I said.
Toki looked at me as he said,
"Thanks."
So finally we left. We had to get something to eat since Jia was actually hungry. Akio was surprised as he said,
"Jia? Hungry? That only happened like....what once before?"
Jia cleared his throat as he took a sip of his tea and said,
"It'll happen from time to time."
Akio and Jia laughed like they knew something we didn't. Anyway after breakfast, where Toki unhappily ate, I drove everyone to the office. Jia had some last minute things to go through about Hong Kong and he was still being annoyed with Kenimin about Lotus. His interest in her was slim to non existent anyway and more then so when he had Toki around him. But Kenimin wanted Jia to make his marriage work. Jia rolled his eyes as he spoke to Kenimin on the phone, looking so annoyed and frustrated as he said,
"Kenimin....please don't start with this again."
He wanted to just move the phone away from his ear I could tell. He was slouched over on his desk, his head resting on the phone as he held it up with his left hand, his right one on his desk as he played with a pen. I sat on the couch against the wall near his desk in case he needed something. He looked so annoyed he finally covered the mouth piece as he put the phone down slightly and said,
"Aka-chan do me a favor."
"Yes?"
"Get me Toki will you?"
I nodded as I got up and left his office as I went downstairs to look for him. Toki is usually sitting in the lobby somewhere if he's not bothering Jia in his office or working. When I got down there however I saw he wasn't there. I hated having to call him but I saw no one else around who could tell me where he could be so I took out my phone and called him. He answered a moment later, still sounding somewhat tired and annoyed as I told him Jia was calling for him. I then went back to Jia's office and sat down to wait again. Jia spent most of his time arguing with Kenimin about his arrangement with Lotus, or with Tsubasa, Karasu and Sozaburo about the deal he was making with Kenimin about owning Hong Kong sooner rather then later because Kenimin was dying. Jia had Toki sit in front of him to entertain him while he was on the phone. It was kind of like seeing Jia be a real oyabun for once. Most syndicates, people like me, Aya, Gabriel and Akio and anyone else who looks good and weak, would be called on by the oyabun for sexual favors. I minded my own business for the most part, looking down at the floor or my manga that I was re reading and listening to my MP3 player, having Blue-B play Slowly but Surely in my ear as I glanced down at the animation. I would look up every now and then to see Toki leaning down, kissing Jia while Jia was still on the phone. Jia's free hand would be on Toki's shirt, his fingers entwined in the material as he broke apart sometimes to say whatever he had to say. After a few minutes of this I didn't want to look up anymore and I just turned up the volume of MP3 player.
By the end of the day Jia was exhausted. He couldn't handle Kenimin's bitching at him anymore because he was close to snapping. Jia was angry that the old man refused to accept the terms of their original agreement. Jia had made it clear he wanted no wife, no home life, no children. He didn't want a marriage. But the deal was too good and too easy for Jia to pass up. Although Jia was regretting now not barging to make a different one because Kenimin was just working his last nerve. To make matters worse, Kenimin decided that in two days, he would arrive in Tokyo again with Lotus. He used the cover of still going over the final details of Hong Kong with Jia, but he was really more or less, pimping his daughter to him still. Jia was not looking forward to it at all and when I drove him and Toki to the Dragon Leaf that evening for dinner, I heard Jia complaining to Toki about it.
"I'm so fucking pissed Kenimin is going back on his word about this shit."
"Shouldn't have married her."
"I was doing it for business sake but he wants to make her part of my life and I don't want or have room for her in my life."
"Then why'd you fuckin marry her?"
Jia took out a cigarette and Toki lit it as he then inhaled and said,
"I did it because it was easy and it was for business. That is so coming back to fuckin haunt me now though."
Jia sighed, leaning against Toki as Toki said,
"I told you so."
"Shut up. You're not helping."
Toki laughed as I pulled up to the Dragon Leaf. They got out as Jia then turned to me and said,
"You having dinner with us?"
"No, I'm fine for once. I'll wait here."
He nodded as he went ahead and I sat in the car, looking around in the dark as I listened to my music and had a cigarette.
Within the next two days, Kenimin, Lotus and some of the Black Hand business heads showed up in Tokyo. Jia had to greet though he was not happy with any of it. The first thing that happened once they got back to Jia's office was Kenimin hitting Jia up again with the prospect of furthering his marriage.
"Kenimin, I told you once I told you a million times I don't plan on doing anything with your daughter!"
"You married her."
"Fuck! Not out of love God damnit! This was my business deal, I explained everything to you about how I don't want a wife, children or a home life. I'm far too busy and I have entirely too much to loose if I did any of those things."
"When I die she will be yours anyway."
"Kenimin, you can't force me into any of this."
Toki was far more easily annoyed then Jia could ever be and he went right up to Kenimin and said,
"Old man you better back the fuck up. You hear my oyabun talkin an he said he aint got room for your fuckin daughter. You best be glad he even agreed to this whole fuckin deal to begin with so I suggest you shut the fuck up an be glad before you piss us all off and you meet your death earlier then expected."
Then, the most unexpected thing happened.
Kenimin struck Toki across the face. Toki let his head turn and he left it there for a moment. He then turned back and lunged at Kenimin so fast Jia only caught him after they were both on the ground. Toki didn't even get to throw a punch because Jia got him off Kenimin quickly. The people of the Black Hand and Lotus helped Kenimin up as Jia stood in front of Toki to either protect him or just hold him back...one or the other...probably both. Kenimin adjusted his coat as he said,
"How dare he!? Does he have any idea what he's doing?"
"I know what fuck I'm doin, talk to me, I'm right fuckin here!"
Jia then held his hand up as he said,
"Kenimin we seriously need to talk."
"Tame him, train him, chain him do something to muzzle that animal of a guard you have but I don't want to see him around anymore!"
Jia narrowed his eyes as he said,
"He's my guard Kenimin, I need him around."
"If you wish to continue business then I suggest you get a temporary one when dealing with me."
He turned and started to leave, Lotus looking over her shoulder at Jia as the Black Hand left.
