Part 12- Give to New Life

I was a little worried about Aoki's behavior. I had never seen him take off his sunglasses for anyone or anything. He was so cold sometimes. It was nice to know he felt at least a little something of concern for pretty Aya. Since the drive by last night, we more then likely know Sung Hyun will react right away. After we left Aoki with Aya that morning, I took Jia to see Yuki at his apartment on Park Ave. I went in with Jia as cover as we saw Yuki's guards standing outside in the lobby. They called upstairs to let them know we were coming. At the door was Estuya as he had a cigarette. He bowed to Jia as he said,

"Good morning."

"Morning. Is Yuki up?"

"Hai."

He knocked on the door as a teenage kid opened it. His light orange hair fell over one of his eyes as he said,

"What?"

"Someone's here for Yuki."

He opened the door as we went inside and Jia looked at Yuki. He was still in his pajamas, a robe on as his hair was out, falling over his shoulders. He sat on the couch as he said,

"Morning. Kinda early for business."

Jia nodded as he said,

"Yeah but it's important."

Yuki got up as he said,

"Okay, but not in front of the kid."

Jia looked at me as he said,

"He works for me. You know that."

Yuki laughed as he said,

"Not yours. Mine."

"Oh.."

Jia laughed too as they both went out to the balcony. Yuki's kid looked at me as he said,

"How old are you?"

"Eighteen."

"I'm seventeen."

"You...are?"

"Yeah."

I looked at Yuki outside and then back at his kid knowing the time wouldn't match up.

"He's not my real dad."

"Oh..."

"My mom married him a couple years ago after my real dad died."

"Sorry to hear that."

"Is okay."

"How old where you?"

"Ten."

"Oh...that wasn't too long ago."

"I know. It's okay though. Yuki's not too bad. He doesn't even act like my dad sometimes....I mean like an adult, parental type."

I laughed as I said,

"Yeah he don't really seem like it."

I should have been acting like a guard. I realized that as I said,

"I should be working."

"If you're only eighteen how'd you get a job like this?"

"Good connections."

He nodded as he then checked his watch and said,

"Shit...I have to go to school. I'm gonna be late again. Talk to you later. Nice meeting you."

He waved as he shouted at Yuki through the balcony door.

"Yuki!"

"What? I'm in the middle of work what you want?"

"Money. I gotta get to school."

"You're late again."

"I know. Can I get some money?"

Yuki sighed as he walked inside, a cigarette in his mouth as his kid followed him and said,

"Mom said not to smoke in the house."

"Well your mom's sleeping so what she don't know won't hurt me."

He picked up his coat and gave him a fifty dollar bill as he said,

"Do not spend it all. This should last you till tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?"

"Yes. Tomorrow. You spend it, I won't give you another cent."

"Sure Yuki."

Yuki laughed as he said,

"Go to school."

He sent him on his way as his kid waved to me and left and Yuki went back on the balcony to talk to Jia.

We stayed for half an hour until Jia finished talking to him as we left.

Nothing would happen until night fall. I was asked to do nothing else since everyone else was slowly taking shifts in their jobs. I went home and finally caught on some sleep. I didn't wake up until much later when I heard my cell phone again. It was night time by the time I woke up. I picked up my phone as I answered.

"Hai..."

"Joryu? I'm sorry I didn't realize the time over there."

It was Miya. I sat up as I said,

"No, no it's okay I'm awake. Hey Miya. How are you?"

"I miss you."

"I miss you too."

"How you been?"

"Busy. Just doing work and stuff."

"Guess what?"

"What?"

"I got in Tokyo University."

"You did? That's good! I'm so proud of you!"

"Thanks."

"So...what are you gonna do now?"

"What you said."

"Ohh good."

"I'm already sorta...making this place home."

"How?"

"I started decorating."

I laughed as he did too. He then said,

"When are you coming home?"

"I don't know. Stuff here is going crazy."

"I want you to come home."

"I wanna come home too. There's not much I can do about it though."

He sighed as my other line beeped and I said,

"Miya hold on, someone else is calling me."

I clicked over as I heard Jia telling me to come pick him up. It was time to work. I said I would be right over as I then clicked back over to Miya. I kept talking to him as I got up and got ready. I talked to him the entire drive over to Jia's building but I hung up once I got there. I parked the car in front of the building as I went inside, taking the elevator to his floor. I went up to his door as I knocked and then waited. Toki answered a moment later, his jeans hanging slightly off his slender hips as he had a wife beater on. He had a cigarette in his hand as he said,

"Hey baby. What ya up to?"

"I have to pick up Jia."

"Oh...right."

He paused as he looked over his shoulder and said,

"Hold on okay?"

I nodded as he closed the door. I waited for a moment before Jia answered the door again, fixing his tie as he pulled his coat up over his shoulder. It looks as if he was struggling before as he then smoothed his hair back and then looked over his shoulder as he said,

"Toki come out here right now. I don't have time to fuck around."

Toki pulled a sweatshirt on over his head as his hands were already through the sleeves. He tugged it down as he said,

"Yeah, I'm here, I'm here. Let's be out."

So we left his apartment. We went back to the building where Tai came in with Gabriel. The two reported having seen Sung Hyun's people all over the place. There were some arrests earlier that night because of some fights that broke out in clubs and bars and such.

"I also think Sung Hyun's moving Alexandra." Said Gabriel.

"Why would he move her?"

"He wants to protect her is my guess."

Jia leaned back in his chair as he said,

"Yeah...but if he did, he would have moved her when all this started. Hell, when I brought her in here the first time."

Tai looked up from some folders he was holding as he said,

"She's probably pregnant."

Silence filled the room as Jia looked at him and said,

"You think?"

"Why else would a man move his wife out of harms way for no other reason then wanting to protect his seed?"

Jia tapped his cigarette against the ashtray as Toki said,

"So...she's carrying his kid and he's trying to move her out so we don't get to her."

Jia nodded as he said,

"Damn..."

Toki nudged him as he said,

"Don't get all mushy soft on me Li. The broad gets caught in between this shit that's her bad. She should know better then to marry some fuckin crime lord of a syndicate and know even more then to get knocked up by him."

Jia frowned as he said,

"I don't want to pull a child into this Toki."

Toki rolled his eyes as Jia said,

"Okay...let him move her. It's probably why he hasn't made a move since the drive by."

Toki sighed as he said,

"Jia, you're making a mistake. This could be the break we need."

Jia sighed as he was left to deal with a moral conscious.

It was a course of a few more hours. Tsubasa came back at one point, Ai'iro by his side as they discussed Jiki's condition. He had gained consciousness and he was fine, just in some pain. Some nerves of his were damaged but nothing that wouldn't heal. Meanwhile, Jun called to report on Aya. Pretty Aya had yet to wake up. The rest of us stayed still as we waited for word on anything Sung Hyun might do. Jia was left to think. At one in the morning, Akio called to let us know Sung Hyun was moving Alexandra. There Jia made his choice.

"Let's go. We'll get him now."

I drove, Jia and Toki in the back, Aoki, Tai and Gabriel in the other car as we sped down to Sung Hyun's place. Akio was tracing them in a cab so he was calling to let us know where we would have to meet him. At a light in down town Manhattan, Sung Hyun's car stopped. We sped through traffic and everything as we got there. Akio got out of the cab as he went right up to Sung Hyun's window and tapped it. He shot and killed the driver as Alexandra hid behind Sung Hyun. We arrived then as Akio was keeping them at there. I parked the car as Sung Hyun's guards got out and one by one we fought them down. Once they had been shot or killed, Jia went up to Sung Hyun's car. He pulled the clip of his gun as he walked to the window and aimed. We stood by Jia's side as Sung Hyun raised a gun up, his arm out to the side as he covered Alexandra. Jia said,

"You got a lot of nerve boy."

"You wanna kill me fine...give me word that you'll let Alexandra go."

I saw his woman cling onto him as she started to cry, her arms securely wrapped around his shoulders. Jia said,

"Why should I?"

"She's got my kid."

"So what? I let her go once before and she came back to haunt me. I usually learn from my mistakes."

Alexandra held onto Sung Hyun, her dark eyes brimmed over with tears as she peered at all of us.

"You have no compassion..."

"You should talk. He who gutted his first wife to get out of paying her when you divorced her."

"That was different. She wasn't with child."

"And if she was would it have made a difference?"

Sung Hyun said nothing.

"That's what I thought. So tell me why I should care and spare you or her?"

He said nothing. Alexandra wept behind his shoulder and I have to say...it was heartless. I had heard from Estuya that she was once married before. Her husband was killed too...I felt bad for her. I wanted to say something...but who was I to say anything? Toki went up behind Jia as he said,

"Li, we gotta get moving man. Cops are bound to show up any second."

Jia nodded and took a single shot as he then said,

"Let's go."

Toki looked over as did the rest of us and we saw Sung Hyun wasn't dead.

"Li you didn't kill him."

"I can't kill him with a pregnant woman behind him. That should buy us sometime while Jiki and Aya get better."

He had shot him in the shoulder. Jia walked away as Toki rolled his eyes and followed him, the rest of us getting in the car as he we sped off, just as the sirens of the cops were closing in.
