Part 124- A Future Rises

Jia did not want to leave Hong Kong right away. In fact, he decided we would stay longer.

"I know it's a pain in the ass, but it has to be done. See, I have to set up properly. I neglected to that before which is why we have this problem in the first place."

Toki groaned, expressing the frustration we were all feeling. I wanted to get back to Tokyo or to New York, anywhere but Hong Kong. I couldn't really stand this place too well. Jia, as he stroked Toki's cheek to calm him down, said,

"We'll do what we have in Tokyo to make it go faster."

"Which is what Jia?" Asked Tai.

"We'll make sure that everyone is well aware that this is my land, that will be all of your jobs."

He looked at me, Aoki, Mikkie and then Toki. He then said,

"We'll contact Toshimasa and bring him here to set up a casino."

"Of course, a casino in a crime ridden city will make easier to control it." Said Tai.

Jia nodded as he said,

"Exactly so while that's being set up, we'll put the name out, employ a few lower heads here and have some of the experienced ones in Tokyo who are bored as hell to come here and watch over them. It'll be easier for the rest of us to relax while someone is watching the new people here. That way, we could go home quicker."

Everyone agreed with Jia's plan and we got on it right away. Tai was in charge of calling Toshimasa and bringing him to Hong Kong. I was in charge of picking him up. The day I was to pick him up, I stood by myself in the airport, waiting for him to appear from the masses that were exiting. I didn't expect him to be too quick, remembering he couldn't really walk well. Once I did see him, I went over to him, bowing my head slightly as he said,

"Konichiwa."

"Konichiwa. Was your flight okay?"

"It was fine. It's warmer here then in Tokyo I hear."

"Yeah, it's nice here."

He nodded as we began to walk. His cane worked as a balance for him and I saw he still limped. I guess I wasn't use to seeing it yet. He then said,

"What time will Jia see me?"

"I'm not too sure. I would have to find out for you."

He nodded, his light brown hair moving back from his face as he walked ahead. I called Jia's cell phone as Toshimasa and I walked out from the airport.

"What?"

"Jia, I've picked up Toshimasa. He would like to know when to meet with you."

"Around ten or so tonight."

"Okay. I'll let him know."

We hung up as Toshimasa looked at me and said,

"Well?"

"Around ten."

"That's fine. It'll give me time to rest."

I nodded as the cab I hailed stopped. I opened the door for him and he had some trouble getting in so I offered my hand. He looked a little embarrassed as he took it and leaned down as he got in the cab and then sat down comfortably. I got in after him and took him to his hotel.

Later that night, before Toshimasa was due to come in, I was sat in the lobby of the building that was once Kenimin's. The business heads had come in along with the few lower heads that came in from Tokyo a couple of hours ago, had come in and began going through everything. So Jia had to take an office as he usually did while everyone else began going through files, destroying or using what they could. I sat in the lobby with all the others, awaiting orders I guess. Aoki and Toki were talking as always as Toki said to him,

"Oh, Akio called me."

"How is he?"

"Alive."

They laughed as Toki said,

"No seriously, he's better. He said he'll try to make it to Hong Kong this week."

"Better not push himself."

"Well I guess if his fuckin nurse maid Jun said it was okay then he must be fine."

"True."

They lit cigarettes as Toki said,

"Toshimasa is here."

"Fuck man don't remind me. He's fuckin sexy."

I could almost roll my eyes to see how Aoki really sounded like Toki a lot of the times. Luckily Aya wasn't around to hear that. Toki nodded as he said,

"It's the face."

"Of course it's the face. When you see a face like that, that can look that pretty, even in a suit and tie?"

"Isn't Aya like that?"

"One of the rare ones. Okay that's one."

"The ningyo, the China Doll, Sozaburo..."

"Okay shut up Toki."

Toki laughed as he said,

"But still..it's the face."

They nodded in agreement as I heard Gabriel say,

"Don't you two ever talk about anything else?"

The gaijin had a file in hand, his suit coat over his arm as he tucked his hair back from his face as Toki exhaled a cloud of smoke and said,

"Nah man, it's our fav topic."

"Which poor victim are you two molesting with your eyes this time?"

"Toshimasa." They said at the same time.

Gabriel sighed as he shook his head ad he said,

"That's like Jia's partner. It's like a different version of Nishiki."

"Nishiki was never that sexy." Said Aoki.

Toki nodded as I saw Toshimasa walking in. I stood up from the couch as Toki and Aoki turned and looked at him as I went over to him and said,

"Kon ba wa."

"Kon ba wa."

I offered him my hand again, since it was starting to become a habit as he took it and cursed as he said,

"It's been so long and I still can't get around to hobbling like an old man."

"You don't hobble Toshimasa."

He gave a scoff as he said,

"What I wouldn't give to be able to walk normally."

"It's not that bad."

I was grateful for him not being able to walk properly...mostly because it gave me the chance to help him whenever I could. As we walked across the lobby, his hand still holding mine, I saw Aoki and Toki talking among themselves as they both stood up and walked over to me as Toki said,

"Yo, let me take him. Imma go to Li's office anyway."

"Nah Toki, I got him. Don't you gotta work anyway?" Said Aoki.

"No! When do I gotta work? Shouldn't YOU be workin?"

"I have to go get my orders anyway."

Toshimasa looked back at me as I sighed and shook my head as I pressed the button for the elevator. As we waited for it, those two argued quietly back and forth to themselves. Once the elevators door opened and the shaft opened, Toshimasa went in by himself as he said,

"I'll be fine from here. Thank you Jo."

"No problem."

He then pressed the button for Jia's floor as Toki and Aoki then got in and said,

"We have to go to Jia's office anyway."

"Yeah man...what Aoki said,"

I shook my head as the doors closed and Toki and Aoki had matching smirks as they turned away from me and the doors closed. I almost felt guilty for leaving Toshimasa in there by himself with those two wanting to jump his bones. I turned away as I went back to the lobby as Gabriel shook his head as he spoke to Mikkie.

"I can't believe those two. They act like idiots sometimes."

"Sometimes?" Said Mikkie.

"Okay, most of the time. But you would figure Aoki would be better behaved."

"Not likely with Toki around." I said.

Mikkie nodded in agreement as we continued to wait.

Some time later, Tai showed up along with Aya as he said,

"We're done for today."

"Already? It's like...one in the morning. Thas early considering Li." Said Toki.

"Well we can only do so much. The other heads here are still going through files and such, so they'll be working until the next morning. Then in the morning, Jia and myself will come back and take over."

We nodded as Toki then said,

"Where is Li?"

"Going over the final details with Toshimasa about the casino here. They should be down here in a few moments."

"Yeah he better."

Aoki sense Toki's jealousy and laughed a little. A few moments later, as Tai said, Jia and Toshimasa appeared from the elevator. Jia nodded as Toshimasa finished up saying something as Jia said,

"Okay, we'll continue this tomorrow."

Toshimasa nodded as he then bowed his head slightly and said,

"Thank you. I'll see you tomorrow then? Later afternoon?"

"Yeah that's fine."

I noticed that when Toshimasa was still, his hip still stuck out to the side a little like he was posing. I'm sure Aoki and Toki noticed that since they both tilted their heads slightly to look at him. Anyway once Toshimasa and Jia shook hands, Toshimasa began to leave. He said he didn't need help this time but thanked us for offering. Us being Aoki, Toki and myself. He then left as Jia went over to Toki and grabbed a handful of his hair, tugging his head back slightly on the sofa as he said,

"Since when are you so helpful?"

"I jus thought I would be nice to a gimp."

"Uh huh."

"Seriously."

"And you? What's your excuse?" Said Jia as he nudged Aoki's arm.

Aoki looked up as he said,

"I just wanted to help."

Jia narrowed his eyes at the both of them as he said,

"As if I didn't know you two better."

Toki smirked as he said,

"Oh yeah? I didn't see you being cold and stern like usual when it comes to business."

"So? What of it?"

"What's your excuse?"

"I'm the oyabun here, I don't need an excuse."

Jia then started to turn as he went into his pockets as he said,

"Oh, I talked to Jun the other day. He should be here by the end of the week."

"Akio's fine then?" Asked Gabriel.

"Yeah he's good. Just a little sore. Nothing major."

Jia then allowed us all to go home and get some rest.

I slept once I got home, so damn tired from having my sleeping pattern thrown off completely that I was getting tired at odd hours. When I woke up again I found it was light out, but not enough light for it to be morning. I checked my clock on the night stand beside my bed as I saw it was seven in the morning.

"Itai...too damn early."

I turned over, attempting to go back to sleep but I found myself laying awake, staring at the window not too far from the foot of my bed. I could hear the morning rising outside as cars honked the horns, brakes were heard, people talking in a language I had yet to pick up other then I'm not hungry and I need a drink. I couldn't sleep. I was concentrating on my surroundings more then anything. Damn sleeping pattern is all fucked up. I groaned as I sat up feeling my shoulders tense up right away as I rubbed them and then sat up straight. I sighed as I got out of bed and went to shower and then got dressed. It was too early to call anyone so I just dressed after my shower, blow dried my hair and then tied it up as I got my coat, my .38, my cigarettes and went to get breakfast. I don't why I bothered to try to eat. I hardly did nowadays anyway. But I did get something in my stomach especially since I saw I was getting too thin for my liking. So before my flesh started sticking to my bones, I decided to start eating again. Even if I didn't feel like it. I spent the whole morning learning Victoria again. Just because I was bored and had nothing better to do. Around the early afternoon after I wore myself out walking and thinking and going through my pack of cigarettes, I decided to head back to my apartment to change and get ready to go back to Jia's newest headquarters in Victoria. I saw the business heads were there already, Gabriel and Tai going over some last minute things as I saw Jun there much to my surprise.

"Hey Jun."

He waved to me, a tired look on his face as he covered his mouth to yawn. He then said,

"What's up?"

"Nothing. When did you get here?"

"Last night around two or so."

"And you're here at work?"

"Well I had to see Jia."

"Of course. Is Akio okay?"

"Yeah, just a little sore. He'll be up and about and back to his questionably charming self."

I had to laugh as I saw Jia walking in, smoothing back his hair as he flicked some ash from his cigarette away. He then said,

"Toshimasa here yet?"

"Not yet Jia." Said Tai.

"Good. I have time to settle and get some tea."

He then saw Jun as he said,

"What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too Jia."

"Not what I meant Jun."

"I know. Just kidding."

"When did you get here?"

"Last night around two or so."

"Akio here?"

"Home. He's still a little sore."

"Understandable. You look tired though."

"I am."

"Go home. We're not doing much of anything but getting organized. Come back when you're of use."

Jun nodded as he waved to Jia and then left. As he opened the main doors to leave, he stepped back as he said,

"Jo."

"Hm?"

I turned, tucking my hair back as he said,

"Jia's got company."

I looked as I saw Xiao Tien much to my surprise.

"China Doll?"

He sighed, still annoyed with being called a China Doll as he ran his hand through his dark black hair as he said,

"Hey. I heard rumors so I came to see if they were true."

"Oh?"

Jun waved to me as he left, leaving me to deal with Xiao Tien. I then said,

"You heard what?"

"That Xiao Na was trying to salvage what remained of the Black Hand. Seemed he was unsuccessful."

"He said he was your-"

"My father, yeah he was. We didn't get along to well."

I nodded in understanding, knowing that feeling too well. I then said,

"You wanna see Jia?"

"Yeah, might as well."

I escorted him to Jia's office, admiring the China Doll's good looks. Dark black hair, scraping past his cheeks slightly, those radiant eyes that once caught and held my attention even as he tried to kill me, slender frame covered in Gucci's finest suit. His hands clasped together in front of him as he said,

"Is Jia well?"

"He's fine."

"Good. I wanted to know how everything ventured since he's in Hong Kong now."

As I took Xiao Tien to Jia's office, my cell phone rang as I answered.

"Yeah Gabriel?"

"Jo, tell Jia that Toshimasa is here."

"Okay."

I hung up as I then went to Jia's office with Xiao Tien and then knocked as he let us in. Jia looked up, surprised to see the China Doll as he said,

"Why is the China Doll here?"

"He's not the only pretty face you'll see Jia. Toshimasa is here."

"Okay, send him in."

He gestured Xiao Tien in as I went to find Toshimasa.

Jia, Xiao Tien and Toshimasa had a meeting while the rest of us waiting. The non business heads anyway. We all waited for a while, Aoki and Toki talking among themselves until the doors opened and Akio walked inside. He looked better, still paler then usual but better. Once Toki and Aoki saw him, they got up and went to greet him. They were glad to see him since he's been out of it for a while. After that, they just sat with each other, the trio once again together. I sighed, shaking my head as I continued waiting. Eventually we were all called up to discuss the future of Hong Kong.
