Here are all the details…
On December 9th, 2001, the APG Training Division formally
opened its doors. On that day, we hosted a large fly-in for all of
APG, and we had some 30-40 pilots show up over an eight hour period.
It was a lot of fun for all, especially for those who have never been to
Moses Lake or have experienced training with us before. To celebrate
our first successful year, we would like to do this again.
The Anniversary Fly-In is scheduled for Saturday, December
14th, 1000-1600 PST (1800-0000Z). Here’s how you can participate.
All pilots will be asked to fly into KMWH from a “staging
airport.” We did this last year from Salt Lake City (KSLC).
Due to the possible high number of pilots we will get for this, and due
to the fact that there are other VATSIM activities for that day, we have
chosen several different staging airports that you may choose from.
These airports are listed below:
Vancouver International Airport (CYVR)
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (KSEA, PAY Hub)
Portland International Airport (KPDX)
Calgary (CYYC)
Denver International Airport (KDEN)
Spokane International Airport (KGEG)
(All ARTCC’s involved have been notified of our fly-in, and will hopefully
provide ATC)
At some point in time prior to the fly-in, please bring
your aircraft to one of the staging airports. It could be the day
of the event or the day before. (The reason we’re doing this is that
it allows pilots to fly around the same time from different locations without
creating a traffic jam at one airport. Most APG hubs, at least in
the United States, have a flight that connects with one of these cities.)
Then, depart your staging airport at the time you requested on our handy
little sign up form, and head on over to Moses Lake! To accommodate
pilots better, we have a list of flight plans prepared for your navigation,
along with preferred altitudes for this flight. You may find this list
at the bottom of this page.
For complete rules, please read the following information:
-The fly in is for all APG pilots who wish to participate.
-You may bring any APG aircraft that you have enough
hours to fly. Concordes are allowed so long as you follow US Airspace
rules and do not break the sound barrier while flying over the continental
United States.
-After landing at KMWH, you may participate in training
if you wish, or you may refile for departure and fly elsewhere. ATC
at KMWH will be up all day to provide services for our pilots.
-Please try to fly a SCHEDULED flight to the staging
airports. PAY has scheduled flights to all of these airports, and so
does AFA. Please find one from the nearest hub and fly it as a normal
flight. When you fly from the staging airport to KMWH, please fly it
and log it as a fly-in flight. The KSEA-KMWH flight may be logged as
the regular scheduled flight if you wish.
-If you are using Microsoft Flight Simulator ©
2002, please download our AFCAD file for KMWH and install it. You
will need it if you wish to practice seaplane operations or helicopter operations,
and also for parking spot assignments. Parking spots are assigned on
a first come-first served basis. Hangar parking will not be assigned
unless requested.
-No more than 3 Seaplanes can be operated at this time
from KMWH. If pilots wish to practice seaplane operations and there
are already three aircraft practicing, special permission may be granted
if ATC is not too busy.
-No more than two helicopters may be in use at any time,
unless ATC is not busy and there are not very many aircraft landing or taking
off at that time.
-Due to the high density of incoming traffic, absolutely
no pilots will be permitted to do a fly by. The only fly by you may
do is if you have to do a missed approach, and even then, only over the
runway and climbing back up to altitude.
Flight Plans
We have prepared several flight plans to assist you
in navigating to KMWH. It is recommended that you use these flight
plans, but not required. You may fly any route that you like to KMWH,
if it’s easier for you, however we strongly recommend that it is not GPS
direct. Remember to check out Echoplate (also found on the Training
website) to get all of the charts you will need!!!
Seattle KSEA to KMWH
KSEA-BLUIT3-EPH-KMWH
Altitude: FL210 or FL230 for jets, 17,000 for turboprops.
Depart Seattle and turn East over the Cascades direct to BLUIT intersection,
thence direct to EPH VOR. You will be given your descent altitude
assignment from Center prior to crossing EPH. After EPH, Grant County
Approach will vector you for the approach. Expect an ILS or VOR approach,
depending on the active runway.
Portland KPDX to KMWH
KPDX-PTLD5.BTG-J136-YKM-MWH
Altitude: FL230 or FL250 for jets, 17,000 for turboprops.
Depart Portland and by vectors, fly direct to BTG VOR and intercept Jet
Route J-136 to YKM VOR. After crossing YKM, proceed direct to MWH VOR.
ATC will have you descend after YKM VOR. Expect a visual or VOR approach.
Vancouver CYVR to KMWH
CYVR-HUH-EAT-EPH-KMWH
Altitude: FL250 for jets, 19,000 for turboprops.
Depart Vancouver and fly direct to HUH VOR to the East. Continue
flying Eastbound and proceed direct to EAT VOR. After crossing EAT,
proceed to EPH VOR and expect altitude assignments to prepare you for arrival.
You will be vectored for the approach prior to crossing EPH VOR if the traffic
is heavy. Expect a VOR or an ILS Approach.
Spokane KGEG to KMWH
KGEG-GEG5.EPH-KMWH
Altitude: 12,000 for all aircraft.
Depart Spokane and by radar vectors, fly direct to EPH VOR and maintain
12,000 feet. You will be vectored for the approach prior to crossing
EPH VOR, regardless of traffic. Expect a visual or VOR approach.
Calgary CYYC to KMWH
CYYC-YYC-CONER-J505-YXC38-J517-EDGES-J3-GEG-J3-MWH
Altitude: FL260 or FL280 for jets, not recommended for turboprops
as no APG Cat 1 or 2 aircraft serve this airport.
Depart Calgary and proceed direct to YYC VOR, and then onto CONER intersection.
Intercept Jet Route J-505 and maintain until YXC38 intersection, then onto
Jet Route J-517 to EDGES intersection, from there, J-3 to GEG VOR, and continue
onto MWH VOR. Expect to be at 12,000 feet at 20 nm from the airport
and 250 KTS. Expect a VOR or ILS Approach.
Denver KDEN to KMWH
You may select your own route in from Denver, however we ask that this
route be reserved for heavy jets (B767 and larger) and at an altitude of
FL310 or higher. It is preferred, however, that you arrive from the
Southeast.
