If you're using Windows, my suggestion is zMUD, an awesome MUD client created by Zugg, for whom I have infinite respect but not enough money to pay for the registration. For this reason, I use the older version. A few features are missing but it's got everything you need and then some. You can find it here. Once you've downloaded it, you need to unzip it and make a shortcut to it. Run the program and click on use the connection wizard. Emperia is not in the mud list, so type Emperia into the name field, emperia.net into the host field, and 5002 into the port field. Then click connect. When it asks for your name, put in a unique name (try not to be too silly). Go through the creation process, and when the window pops up asking if you want to make an autologin click no. You may want to do this later but this time it would screw up your login. If you choose to customize your character, try to keep your creation points between 40 and 50, otherwise it will be pretty hard to level. Once you've connected, your first mission is to learn about the world around you. The mudschool north of the place you log in is provided to help you do this. Type 'look sign' in this room and follow the instructions, looking at the sign in every room. Once you've gotten through the mudschool, you should know enough to survive in the world of Emperia.
