The Archangel's Emperia Webpage
Levelling FAQ
WARNING: Spoilers ahead. DO NOT READ if you wish to play the game as normal, because this guide will give you the optimum path for levelling a character through Emperia. It will tell you how to get the most out of every gain and what equipment to get at every level. If you're the type who wants to explore and find this stuff on your own, PLEASE STOP NOW. Thank you.

So, you're tired of doing this stuff on your own, are you? Well, chances are, people like you are always going to be asking people like me these same questions, and I know at least I would answer all of them. So, I might as well put them up on my webpage so you can spare yourself the small amount of shame that can be involved with asking too many questions. All I ask is that in return, you answer peoples' questions when they ask, and help them in any way that you can. A little kindness goes a long way. I'm only doing this FAQ to level 50. So figure out how to explore and figure things out by then, and make some friends who can help you personally.

Start your character as evil, as it's easier to level evil for the majority of the game. First, you're gonna start in mudschool. FROM LEVEL ONE, you need to do everything you can to make your character the best it can be. This means getting those levelling stats (wisdom, constitution, and intelligence) as high as they can be as fast as you can get them there. Your first priority is wisdom, so train it as high as it can go, then go on to int if you are a mage-type, con if you are any other class. When practicing, practice as little as possible, preferably ONLY your weapon skill. It's all you really need to get through the first ten levels anyway. It may be difficult, but it's well worth it. As you collect practices, every time you get ten convert them to trains and use them on your stats. Do this until your intelligence is maxed, then you can start practicing other things. Also, I personally always get the diploma the first level, whether it be by asking a level 3-5 person to get it for me, or getting myself killed as many times as it takes to kill the dean. Fight your way through mudschool, focusing mainly on the arena. At level three, pick up Mr. Turkentine's glasses from Wonkaland to increase your wisdom by one and the black squirrel pelt from Valley of the Mists to increase your constitution by one. This last one may require the help of a higher-level player to attain. The pink ice rings will increase your strength, and can be found on the old dolls in the dwarven daycare. It's also a good idea to go all south of recall and complete the maze there to get a ray of sunshine. Continue fighting in mudschool until level five, then it's time to move on.

Before you do anything else, there's a whole slew of levelling gear you need at this level. The Shield of Faith from the prophets in New Thalos will increase your wisdom by one. Veruca Salt's necklaces behind the door in Mr. Turkentine's office in Wonkaland will each increase your intelligence by one. Pick up a firefly off the ground in the holy grove to increase your constitution by one. Time to move on to the fourth tower, which is north of New Thalos, a city far to the east of Midgaard. In the tower, hunt down the servants, but be careful as the wizard's apprentices, cleric's apprentices, and knights in training all have a tendency to assist them. By level 7 you should be able to replace your weapon, so look for one. Also, get a linen robe from the nannies in the dwarven daycare, and try to get a person above level 30 to get the earth rings from the earth ruler for you. Each one of these is +1wis/+1int. This should max out your wisdom even if you are human. Continue fighting servants until level 8 or 9.. This is one area I have trouble with. Fight wizard's apprentices on the fifth floor of the Fourth Tower. They can be a bit difficult because they have the great practice equipment and they assist each other. But, after a few more levels of fighting, you'll be level 10 and able to use it as well, and your power will skyrocket.

Grab the practice equipment now. The scouts, clerics, and wizards apprentices need to be killed for it. A knight in training should only be necessary if you are a warrior, because you need its sword. At this point, you have two options. You can either arrange your equipment so that even using practice equipment, your wisdom, intelligence, and constitution remain as high as possible all the time, or switch off just before you level. If you do the latter, however, you run the risk of forgetting, and too many levels without all your levelling gear can start to spoil your final stats. I usually keep my stats as high as possible all the time, just to be safe. For the next ten levels, you don't have to worry much about equipment unless it's weapons, which I won't list here unless they're exotic because of the variation between characters. Perhaps at a future date I will make a "weapons worth wielding" page.. we'll see. Fight the apprentices until they stop giving you decent experience then go on to the merchants and nobles on the second floor. Nobles are weaker than merchants. Nobles will assist each other, and merchants will assist each other. Once the exp starts tapering off here, move on to mages, but be careful. They cast mage spells including the wicked fireball, acid blast, and teleport spells. Also, their apprentices will assist them. Usually, though, you can kill them fast enough that they can't react. They are vulnerable to fire, so if you have burning hands this is a great time to use it.

Once you reach level 20 or 21, you can move on to the best levelling area ever: GUMMILAND! But first, get the cold steel, flowing, and hard leather gear from the priests, mages, and trailblazers in the fourth tower. This stuff is like practice gear but roughly twice as powerful. Of special note are the robes, which give you +2con.. I don't get rid of these for a long time. Also the elemental bracelets on the elemental canyon will boost your hp by 25 apiece. These may require the aid of a higher-level player, as he uses the powerful breath spells. Now that you're well-outfitted (remember to keep your stats high), go on to gummiland (find and enter the candy machine inside wonka's factory) and fight the lime gummis. The only things that assist here are the strawberry gummis, which will assist against any player. The lime gummis are resistant to blunt, but I had no trouble with them even wielding a mace. They do bash, though, which stuns you for three rounds, rendering you unable to cast spells or use skills. Around level 25, you move on to the strawberry gummies, which don't bash and are vulnerable to slash, resistant to blunt. Warriors can tear them apart easily. Also pick up the ball of flame and black bodysuit from Vision, the invisible leader of the thieves in the Fourth Tower. You'll need to get her bodysuit remove aligned, though. The strawberries should carry you to level 30, when you can move on to watermelons. They are vulnerable to piercing and resistant to blunt, so thieves and mages have an easier time here.

Now, you can get the red dragon equipment. Many people look down on getting a whole set of this equipment, because it decreases your dexterity dramatically. However, I find the damage bonus much more useful, unless you're a thief. Pick up the belt of life from Belrak in Mahn-Tor. It gives you a whopping THREE con, opening up your eq for some changes. The Red DragonOrb gives you 2 int and 2 wis, as well. Also, pick up lockheed the dragon from Iceman in the Xavier Institute. He can be a bit tough, but he's vulnerable to fire.. At this point your best bet is to turn good for awhile. The flesh golems in the fifth tower, out the eastern gate of the city north of the fourth tower (Aelonia), are vulnerable to slash, and the red dragon claw is a very effective exotic slash weapon. Anyone can use exotic weapons well. Usually, unless you have the attack group, your best bet to change aligns is just to fight the mob you'd be fighting anyway. So fight them until the exp tapers off, which should be around level 44. Then, go to Legends and fight demons in the tree. It's all west of recall, all north, 4e, 2n, e, s, e. They do not assist and they flee from you. At level 45 it might be a good idea to get the darklight lamp from Iuenil in Valley of the Mists. She's tough though. Once the demons exp gets too low, turn back evil (don't worry, you'll never have to switch again) and go fight the hydras inside the gummi castle. You'll have to kill the gateguard to get in, but that's ok, because he has some pretty good eq himself. I avoid the gauntlet at all costs. It's just too unpredictable.

Well, that's it. I hope by now you've found your way around well and know some degree of what to do. Good luck making it to hero. :)
