4/6/2006 - I got the bed by my
shed weeded and planted some pansies by the fat cat. Behind him to
the left you can see one of the foxgloves I planted last year is growing
nicely. The other 2 look kind of dead :( |

| 4/27/2006 - I've been working
pretty hard the past couple weeks to get all the beds weeded. I did
the front yard today (sorry, no picture of that) and _finally_ got my
yellow rose bush transplanted. It was in the side-yard
bed next to the chimney, and about 6 inches from the house.
Way too close to the foundation, and not enough light. Last week I
pruned the heck out of it - it was growing straight up and was about 5
foot tall! After the rain over the weekend, the ground was soft
enough for me to dig it up. In this picture you can see the 2
roses. The larger one is a Chicago Peace that I planted last fall,
and the yellow rose is the smaller one. I hope it grows.
To the left of the 2 roses is an iris, which
is 2 years old and should give a really nice show this year. The
other side of the fence is my Russian neighbors.

5/25/2006 - I got a special hanging basket and flowers to
put in it. The basket has a reservoir so supposedly you don't have
to water it every day. So far I've had to water it every day.

Here's an updated photo of the shed bed. One of the
foxgloves is blooming. I think it will have more than one spike this
year. The other 2 are nice and leafy, but that's about it :(
The pansies have filled in nicely since it's been cool. I weeded
this today and planted Impatiens in among the pansies. Once it gets
hot and the pansies die, I'll still have some flowers to look at :)
At the base of the bird feeder pole is a sedum which I finally planted
and seems to be growing pretty well. It should bloom later this
summer. |
