The Editors invite authors to submit manuscripts that advance conceptual understanding about the nature of Agribusiness and AgroIndustrialisation in Africa. Manuscripts may be historical, conceptual, or empirical in nature. Consistent with a multidisciplinary perspective and openness to multiple methods of inquiry, the Editors welcome a variety of views and approaches. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: 1. The Role of Agricultural Processing and Manufacturing in African Economies. 2. The Links and Relationship between the Agriculture and Industry Sectors in Africa. 3. Productivity Growth, Technology Progress and Resource-Use Efficiency in AgriFood Processing and Manufacturing. 4. Logistical Strategies and Risks in Processing and Marketing of Agricultural Products. 5. Socioeconomic Impacts of Agricultural Processing Plants. 6. Agricultural Processing Industry and Alternative Macroeconomic Policy Measures (Exchange rates, Interest rates, Taxes, etc...). 7. Credit, Alternative Financing and Managerial Expertise as Impediments to Agribusiness Development. 8. Impact of Trade and Agricultural Policies on Marketing of Value-Added Products. 9. Wholesale and Retail Trade Analysis of Processed Agriculture Products. [Case studies of Value-Added Food Products: Marketing and Consumer Welfare.] 10. Horizontal and Vertical Intra-industry Trade in the African Food Processing Industry. 11. Globalisation, Manufacturing and Foreign Direct Investment: Impediments and Prospects for Africa's Agro-industrialisation. 12. Biotechnology and Ethics in Agrifood Processing, Marketing and Consumption. 13. Agro-industrialisation and Economic Performance in Asia: Lessons for Africa. "Agribusiness and AgroIndustrialisation in Africa" (Molua, E.L. and H.N. Enabulele, eds) attempts to indentify and evaluate the challenges and Opportunities in the Agribusiness sector in typical African economies. It aims to bring out the relationship between between the Agriculture and Industry Sectors in Africa. The book should derive the policy actions for sustained agroindustrialisation and improved economic performance in Africa. Deadline for submissions of Abstracts: October 1, 2003 Deadline for submissions of Full/Completed Paper: January 31, 2004 Submit one (1) copy of each manuscript along with a diskette containing the manuscript in Word format. The author’s name should not appear anywhere except on the cover page - since the double blind review process will be employed. The author should keep an extra, exact copy for future reference.
