| Luis Miguel (Gallego Basteri) is a Mexican singer. He was born in Puerto Rico in 1970 : his father is Spanish and his mother is Italian. Between the age of 12 and 14, he records 4 albums. In 1985, he receives his very first prizes, one of them being a Grammy for his duet with Sheena Easton. In 1987, he signs a longterm contract with Warner Music International and begins his collaboration with the producer Juan Carlos Calderon. He records his 5th album "Soy como quiero ser" (I am as I want to be) and earns 8 gold and 5 platinum records internationally. In 1989, he records his 6th album "Un hombre busca una mujer" (A man searches for a woman) and begin a Latin American Tour. In 1992, for his US tour, concerts are sold out : Luis Miguel is the first and only Spanish singer to sell out New York's Paramount and Los Angeles' Universal Amphiteatre. He is the first Latin artist to be certified gold in the US for a Spanish language album. In 1993, his 9th album "Aries" is released. Luis breaks touring records in the US and Mexico and he is the first Latin solo artist to sell out a single show at New-York's Madison Square Garden. In 1994, he records his 10th album "Segundo Romance" and sells out for 16 nights at the National Auditorium in Mexico City. He also records a duet with Frank Sinatra : "Come fly with me". He wins his 3rd career U.S. grammy for "Segundo Romance" in the category of Best Latin Pop Performance. He wins Best Selling Latin Artist of the Year at the World Music Awards held in Monte Carlo. By the middle of the year, he has sold 1 million albums of "Segundo Romance". In 1995, he released his album "El concierto" (Live CD) which includes all of his greatest hits and also incorporate new interpretations of traditional Mariachi standards "Si Nos Dejan" (If they let us) and "Amaneci en tus brazos" (I woke up in your arms). In 1996, he records his album "Nada es Igual" (Nothing is the same), his first studio-recorded album in more than 2 years. The Walk of Fame selection Committee in Hollywood honors Luis Miguel with the placement of a star on the side walk of the famous avenue. In 1997, he releases his 3rd album of boleros "Romances". He began a big Tour in the US and Latin America, and then, in 1998, he goes to Spain : this is his first visit after 8 years of absence. In 1999, his new album "Amarte es un placer" (Loving you is a pleasure) is released on September 14th and the tour begins the day after in Madrid. He will also perform in Latin America and the US. He continues singing in Spanish and proves once again that you don't have to speak Spanish to love Luis Miguel. On April 19th 2000, he celebrated his 30th birthday and his concert in Dallas, his fans sing a "Happy Birthday" to Luis. In late October, he released another album "Vivo" (Live). A DVD with the same title is also released. In 2002, he begins a big Tour : the United-States first, then, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, back in the US. This year, he celebrates the 20th anniversary of his career. Luis Miguel should do the Second Part of his tour and visit Spain and Latin America, especially Argentina, where thousands of fans are waiting for the dates of his concerts in this country (the concerts in Argentina had to be cancelled because of the current crisis that Argentina is facing).
