Reflection
In English 103, I had to do a cultural essay, in which I
had to analyze a painting by Roger Shimomura. I never had to analyze any type of
painting before, so this genre of writing was completely new to me. When I was
trying to analyze the painting by Roger Shimomura, I had to analyze every
aspect of the painting, which included the figures he used in the painting, the
background of the painting, and how it responded to a larger discussion. I
think for the paper I did a good job of giving a good amount of background
information about the Japanese internment during World War II. When analyzing
the painting itself though I could analyze obvious things, such as the Senator
in the painting as a representation of his stand on Japanese internment during
World War II. It was hard for me though to analyze things such as the colors and
the deeper representation of things in the painting. I believe for my first analyzation of a
painting I did well.
