| 03.04.01 bada bing! I have committed to watching The Sopranos this season. So far I'm two for two. It helps that episodes one and two both aired tonight. I have real trouble with watching things week after week. After a couple of weeks I start rebelling and finding better things to do, like sorting socks. Then I kick myself, because it's not like I watch a lot of TV, anyway, and I may as well enjoy the couple of shows that aren't offensive. But I think I'll be able to stick with those wacky mobsters. The Soprano family reminds me of my own. Tonight's second episode, in which Tony's wretched mother dies, reminded me of what's likely to happen when my grandfather decides to sleep with the fishes. Only I won't go to the funeral that someone will no doubt organize even if he leaves instructions to the contrary. I'll be doing something useful, like sorting socks. I think I'm going to need for someone to write a part for me on the show. Maybe I can be the young wife who moves in next door and befriends Carmella. We can go shopping and she can ditch the tennis lessons. Or maybe I can be Janice's daughter, one she gave up for adoption, and I've come to Uncle Tony for help and money. I have all sorts of good ideas. HBO, are you listening? In other news, I couldn't stand not having a link to the fabu Hetfield/Newsted dolls, so here it is. How much do they RAWK? 03.03.01 hetfield will be mine... oh, yes. WHEE! I just found out that Metallica action figures will be available in October! They're based on what the guys looked like during the ...And Justice For All tour, and will only be available as a set, so I can't get just James. Or just James and Jason. Maybe I can go in on a set with some fifteen-year-old hesher who only has eyes for Kirk and Napoleon. Anyway, Het and Newsted look good. I'm especially proud that they've captured Het's dreamy guitarist stance... *swoon* If I were his wife I'd be really creeped out by the notion of a zillion women buying dolls that look like him... though I guess I'd be more creeped out by the zillion women that actually come on to him everywhere. I'm glad Roger's not a rock star. Though he kind of should be, based on how hot-damn fine he looks in leather pants. But it's hard enough keeping the women off of him when we're at the movies, so I can't even imagine the kind of trouble I'd have if he was a cowboy... riding a steel horse... wanted dead or alive. PS, I considered posting the URL for the page where the figures are, but I've been out of work for a month and a half, and can't afford to be sued by Lars. 02.22.01 progress I got the job!! I got the job!! Magazine publishing has been one of my dreams since forever... whee! I can't wait to say "I'm in publishing" in a snobby voice and hand people my card. The show preparation is going super-well. There's a ton of memorizing to do, but that's it. We got great feedback from Christia's friend Jennifer who's a screenwriter. Laurie and I had coffee the other day and were discussing how normal it feels to be seeing each other all the time again. When we knew each other we were both so angry and consumed by the fucked-up events at home that there was always this huge barrier. Now it's so easy. It's important to me as I get older to be around good people who knew me long ago. |
