Sample for the Ist Day of School

I will greet every student at the door and let them know where they will be sitting by giving them a card and telling them to find their match.  Once class starts, I will tell the students a little about me and my education then I will do an icebreaker activity with them so that they can become familiar with their other classmates.  After the icebreaker activity, we will then talk about the classroom rules.  I will already have a couple made up and allow them to make up 1 or 2 on their own.  Examples of the rules would be:  be attentive when someone else is talking, raise your hand if you need to say something and do not run in the classroom.  These are just a few.  After we establish some rules, we then will talk about our expectations for the upcoming year and what they should expect.  At this time we will talk about a few classroom procedures.  I will let them know that I will dismiss class, not the bell, and if you jump up and walk out of class before I dismiss you then you will be the last person to leave.  Another procedure I will introduce is what you do when you are absent.  I will have an interactive bulletin board on the wall with folders for makeup work, missed notes, missed handouts and a folder to turn it all in at.  I will take them through this and let them know what to do and how to do it.  Also, I will let them know how make up tests work.  They will sign up for a day to retake the test according to my schedule.  I will hand them a reminder letter a day or two in advance to remind them.  If they do not show up then they will have one more chance to reschedule according to the sign up and if they again do not show up then they will not receive a grade for that test.  I would end the class with the students writing a paragraph about somethng that they would want me to know about them.  If time permits I will ask some students that want to, to share it.
