| GENTILLY & NEW ORLEANS EAST |
Gentily Gentilly is a sprawling neighborhood falling east of City Park and beneath Lake Pontchartrain, with a high elevation for New Orleans, as most of the area stands about 10 feet ABOVE sea level. Like neighboring Lakeview, Gentilly is a community known for sprawling green lawns and park-like atmosphere. In 1909, development began in Gentilly Terrace, a neighborhood of impressive homes on the lake side of Gentilly Boulevard bounded by St. Roch and Franklin Avenues. The homes were all the more beautiful by being built up high upon the terraced lots. The rest of Gentilly was mostly developed in the fifties with many residences being constructed in new subdivisions such as beautiful Oak Park. Large oaks were saved in the planning of this neighborhood on the lake side of Mirabeau. Gentilly is also home to Dillard University, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, the Greek Orthodox Cathedral which holds a fabulous Greek Festival every Memorial Day weekend, and the New Orleans Fairgrounds where Jazzfest is held annually. Average Housing Costs: $90,000-130,000 Average Rent: 1 bedroom: $400-550 2 bedrooms: $500-600 3 bedrooms: $700 + For more information on Gentilly, visit the following: Architecture Greater New Orleans Data Community Center RelocateNewOrleans.Com New Orleans Fairgrounds How is crime in this area?
