CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT (CBD), THE ARTS & WAREHOUSE DISTRICTS

Central Business District (CBD)

Close to the French Quarter and considered the heart of downtown New Orleans, the Central Business District (also referred to as "CBD") is a great area for professional singles and couples alike.  Most of the area's homes are upscale condominimums and apartments.  Also located in the CBD are many upscale hotels, restaurants, shops, galleries, banks, office buildings, City Hall, New Orleans arena (home of the  New Orleans Hornets!) and the world-famous Superdome.  What makes living in the CBD great? How about the ability to walk to work, the French Quarter, to a Saints game, or enjoy a free concert in Lafayette Square, etc.

The Arts & Warehouse Districts

Once an area for factories and warehouses, the Warehouse
District is now home to upscale condominimums and apartments, as well as hotels, restaurants, galleries, shops, and more.  The Warehouse District is full of young professionals who are looking for a place that is more "soho-like" or "bohemian".  Even though this area is one of the oldest areas in the city, the rennovation
of the warehouses/factories didn't start until the mid-1980s, so
in fact, it is one of the newer neighborhoods....uh, did that make sense?  Most of the Warehouse District apartments are lofts
with high 12-16 foot ceilings, huge windows and rooftop decks/pools.  Most, if not all, apartment complexes in the Warehouse District have onsite, secured parking (for an extra
fee, of course, and this can range from $100-150 a month).  The majority of the apartment complexes in the Warehouse District
are managed by a company called HRI.  To get a better peek at
the Warehouse District properties, visit their website at

The Arts District is part of the Warehouse District and CBD and there really isn't a definitive line distinguishing the different areas.  Most of the Arts District is just north of the Warehouse District, but uptown to the CBD, mainly around Julia Street to Howard Avenue, from Camp to Baronne...like I said there aren't any real definitive borders of the Arts District.  The Arts District consists of some condominimums/townhomes, art galleries, museums, and upscale hotels.

Housing Prices: $400,000-800,000 (average)
Rentals: 1 bedroom: $700-$800
2 bedrooms: $900-$1,200
3 bedrooms: $1,500+

* Please note that the CBD, Warehouse and Arts Districts are
NOT the norm for New Orleans as far as housing costs go.
These areas are some of THE most expensive in New Orleans.
