| Orleans Parish Public Schools on the Web: Orleans Parish Public School System New Orleans Public Schools, for the most part, are well below the national average in test scores, attendance, and graduation rate and are in dire need of a complete overhaul of the system. However, there are a few shining stars in the New Orleans Public School System, and this is a list of them. Schools that are NOT listed I do not recommend. If you are considering public school for your child, please feel contact me via email. Audubon Montessori Elementary School (Uptown - 428 Broadway Street, K-8) School Profile: greatschools.net Ben Franklin Math/Science Elm. School (Uptown - 5951 Patton Street, K-6) School Profile: greatschools.net Ben Franklin Sr. High School (Lakeview, 2001 Leon C. Simon Dr., 9-12) School Profile: greatschools.net Hynes Elementary School (Lakeview - 990 Harrison Avenue, K-6) School Profile: greatschools.net Lusher Elementary School (Uptown - 7315 Willow Street, K-4) School profile: greatschools.net Lusher Extension (Middle) School (Uptown - 719 Carrollton Ave., 5-7) School profile: greatschools.net Admissions into the above-listed schools is extremely difficult as students have to be tested, interviewed, etc. to gain admission through CWAS. Thousands of children apply to these schools every year, and most are NOT admitted as there is only so much room. There is one way around the CWAS way of admission and that is by living IN the school district. School districts are very small and for the most part, you'll have to pick up a list from the school to find out what addresses are IN a school district. DO NOT RELY ON YOUR REALTOR as they do not know exactly where a school district ends/begins. You must live IN the school district BEFORE registration, which is usually in MARCH the year before school starts. Late registers often find that the school is boked and there is no room - SO DON'T WAIT! |
