Y'all have had a rough year with weather up your way. We've had a little bit of our own. It was a sad deal all the way around for the Huntsville Air Show. I heard one of the Airport spokesmen say the show was supposed to have been a gift to the community for the support the community has given it. Then to have a damn freak weather event spoil things with the death of a 5-year-old boy and several injuries gives meaning to the old saying that "no good deed goes unpunished."

Hey I guess the rise in gas prices must really put a crimp in your driving. I stopped and walked around the local Chevy dealership last Sunday. They sure do have a lot of big pickup trucks and SUVs on the lot. Guess they ain't selling so well nowadays. Do you suppose all those people thought the price of gas was going to come down? Those massive SUVs are really safer than ordinary cars, especially when they're left parked in the driveway.

Me, I don't feel the need to drive over to Huntsville to go to the bookstore nearly as often anymore. I buy used books from Amazon's sellers and come out better all the way around.

I'm scouting out a semi-safe route to school and have plans to start riding my bicycle to work. I've been thinking that investing in a company that sells electric bicycles might be a good idea. Been thinking of buying one my own self. I've really been interested for years and the technology has improved the last few years. When it comes to two wheel travel I've decided that 15-20 mph is fast enough for me. I gave up riding scooters and motorcycles. I was afraid my reflexes weren't sharp enough for 2-wheel travel at regular traffic speeds and it seems every day or so I'd read about a local death of a motorcycle rider. High gas prices may change the transportation paradigm here in America and bikes and other low speed transport may yet catch on for local neighborhood travel.
