In the novel not much attention is put on the offices on E-block. However, I pictured that there would be two rooms - one for Paul Edgecombe and one for the rest of the guards.

Paul Edgecombe has his own office because he is the leader on the block. Before execution the prisoners come to his office where they have a chance to meet a priest and pray. Edgecombe describes his office:"First you went into my office (where the carpet was also green...), and crossed in front of my desk, which was flanked by the American flag on the left and the state flag on the right."

In the other office the guards on the block spend their time when they are not at the duty desk. Usually they read or write reports. There are no real ways of spending time on the block for guards either. Paul Edgecombe is right when stating that in prisons you just wait - both guards and prisoners have a lot of extra time.
