6.
Monday morning seemed to fly by to Brittany. Not that it bothered
her, she was ready to go home, by chance, see AJ. They had spent the entire
night kissing and holding each other. And it felt amazing to be so close to
someone. It was this sense of security that Brittany hoped would last forever.
And speaking of hopes-- she had kind of hoped her name would show up on the
list of girls who would play Varsity basketball for the team this year and it
did. The list was posted on the front door of them gym. Practice wouldn't start
until tomorrow but, in the midst of a daydream, Brittany accidentally stuck her
Lit. book in the her gym locker. Seeing as though she needed it for a 200 point
assignment she figured it was best if she fish it out.
Brittany strolled into the girl's locker room, which smelled
fairly dank, each time she walked in she winced. For the most part no one was
there. Except for three blondes. Brittany remembered that the cheerleaders had
practice today. One of the blondes had this amazingly long, thick hair
cascading down her back. Brittany frowned slightly. Shawna Taylor. Brittany and
Shawna made eye contact for a brief moment. Brittany cocked an eyebrow in that
you-don't-phase-me type way. Shawna rolled her eyes and exited the
locker room. Brittany just shook her head and sat down on a bench.
"You'll have to forgive her," a spunky, dimpled blonde
with white streaks in her facially flattering bob spoke up. “She's just pissed
that you beat her out for homecoming queen."
The other blonde had pigtails, "And because Logan Miller is
totally hot for you."
"Excuse me?" Brittany tried to keep her face straight.
"Yep," Pigtails bubbled, "He was gonna ask you out
today as a matter of fact."
"You guys'd look totally cute together!" giggled White
Streaks. "By the way I'm Mallory Lawrence, and this is Yasmine Davis.
We’re on the Varsity squad!"
"Nice to meet you."
"We should all hang out sometime-- like the mall or the
movies or something."
"Sounds like fun."
Mallory scribbled her number down on a piece of paper and gave it
to Britt.
"Don't worry, Yas is always with me so you'll get the both of us on one
number!"
"We're best friends!"
Brittany laughed a little. She thought people like Mallory and
Yasmine only existed in movies.
"See you around, Brittany!" The two girls left and
Brittany grabbed her Lit. book from her open locker and ran out of the gym.
Hopefully, Asia was still out in the parking lot, Brittany could still bum a
ride with her. Yet the moment that Brittany stepped out into the sunlight, that
infamous black Lexus had zipped off down the road. "Shit!" she
cursed, surprising herself. She had never cussed a day in her life. Never too
late to start, she figured.
"Hey, Beautiful, lookin' to get home."
Brittany was all smiled as she whipped around and saw Logan
sitting in a white Escalade.
"Yes," she sighed with relief, "yes, thank
you so much!"
"Hop in, let's take a ride."
"Thank you, again, for giving me a ride. I don’t know how I
would have gotten home if I hadn't run into you."
"It's no problem. It's not very often I'm awarded the honor
of chauffeuring pretty girls around in my car."
Brittany felt a blush rise in her cheeks. "I'll see you
later, Logan," she murmured and reached for the car door.
"Wait a minute, Brittany..." his voice was urgent but
soft. He waited a moment and seemed to be trying to find the right words to say
to her.
"What is it?" Before Brittany could get another breath
out, Logan had leaned toward her and kissed her. For a moment she kissed him
back, just as softly, but then Brittany's eyes went wide and she pushed him off
her. "Logan?!"
"Please, be my girlfriend, Brittany," he pleaded,
"I like you so much."
Her face softened a little. Suddenly she remembered what Yasmine
had told her. About him wanting to ask her out. Brittany sighed. "I can't
be your girlfriend Logan. I'm sorry."
"Why not?" he asked his disappointment was heard in his
voice and reflected in the green of his eyes.
"Because... I already have a boyfriend."
"Oh."
"I'm so sorry. I guess I should have said something before
all this happened, huh?"
"It's fine. I should have known."
"We can still be friends, though, right?" her eyes
sparkled hopefully.
"Of course."
"Good. See you soon and thanks again for the ride."
Brittany climbed out of the car and went into her house. Brian was bent at the
waist, peering out the window. When he heard the door slam shut he
straightened.
"Hey, Britt! How was... school?" he gave her a kiss on
the cheek as she stopped in front of him.
"Nice... what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be
at Parc Studios right now with the guys?"
"I was just on my way out," he said, taking another
look out the window. "You make the team?"
"You know it."
"Hey, who's that kid whose car you just got out of?"
"Logan, a friend of mine."
Brian looked at her and nodded. "Well, if he tries to get
fresh with you… tell him your uncle Brian's got a shotgun."
