PROJECT MANAGEMENT
"A project is a set of activities which has a definable beginning and a definable end." That is a very popular and interesting definition of a project. It means that anything that we do except perhaps an established regular continuous work like mass manufacturing or consumer sales would be a project and the various powerful project manangement tools will be of great help. Engineering Product Development is a typical example where project management tools like PERT are of immense help. New Product Development Methodology (NPDM) makes great use these tools. In the case of New Products it is normal to do some experimentation, the results of which could have some uncertainty. This necessitates the use of statistical evaluations of the probable activity completion times in order to have a good control over the Project Completion Time Schedules. A Statistical PERT Software has been developed for this purpose. This enables easy control of such projects. Software Product Development is obviously a project with built in uncertainties. Statistical scheduling techniques are imperative in these situations. The same is the case for Software projects for custom building or custom configuration of Software. Here again PERT using statistical methods comes to the rescue. |
