Where was God?

Over the last few days, a million voices have asked this question.
No rabbi, priest, imam, minister has had an answer that seemed to fit.
Free will -- Human nature -- Sin, none answered the question
Where was God!
Amidst my soul, torn by great anger and sorrow I scream the question too!
Now, like a clap of thunder -- the first ray of light after a storm
I think I understand … ….a little!
We are looking in the wrong place.
Every unspeakable horror man has committed over the ages
God was there as he was again in Manhattan
He was there.
There with the people, those hurt, dead,
He was there.
There with the fireman, the policeman, the EMT rushing toward the man-made hell.
There with those evacuating, running to save their own lives who stopped to help another.
There with the thousands whose only thoughts for days have been?
“What can I do to help”?
He surely was there with those who were on a hijacked plane over Pennsylvania.
When they found out what was up and choose to act … to sacrifice
So maybe, just maybe, Some others might be saved.
He’s still here.
Here with those who get angry when hearing that some have misdirected
their anger and rage at innocents only because of their color, their religion.
He is here.
Here with those using all their strength to move a mountain
just in the hope that someone, anyone might be found.
He is here.
Here as we go about our lives. As we look into each others eyes,
At home, at the office, on the street and see our pain, our sorrow reflected.
He is here.
Here as we turn turn from the horrors that man can inflict and see instead the good,
the selflessness, the compassion that we all possess.
Look in the mirror!    There he is!
